My grand daughter has been diagnosed with central precocious puberty. Does anyone have any answers as to where I can purchase safe and effective growth hormones? The doctors won't assist any further because my insurance has denied payment on the growth hormones because they say it's not a medical necessity. I'm desparate to find out what the hormone is made from or where to purchase it.

I meant my daughters insurance won't pay, not mine.

She has been given lupron to stop the hormone production, but she needs to continue growing and that is the drug they won't cover. It's a daily shot for the next 8 years. Without this growth hormone, she won't grow more than 8 inches. She is 4 feet tall and age 4. She had rapid growth for the last couple years but the doctors didn't catch it. Her bones are at age 12 stage now.

YOU DO NOT NEED GROWTH HORMONE. Your granddaughter has already grown far too fast. If her bones have not yet fused, then stopping puberty with Lupron is all that is needed. If her bones have already fused, then growth hormone cannot do anything for her height but make her other bones (face, hands) look funny. Growth hormone for your granddaughter is not only unnecessary, it could be downright harmful.

You need to talkk to your grandchild's endocrinologist to understand this better- dont try to be a doctor to her without understanding what you are doing.

Precocious puberty is growing up too fast, so i doubt it's growth hormone you'll be giving her. It is some type of hormone but will have the opposite effect, making things slow down to a more normal rate

ask the doctors what they prescribe for this and get a written prescription. Then call pharmacies and try to find a place that sells it at a reasonable price- not every pharmacy sells it at the same price. Cost Co and Wal Mart often have prescriptions at a lower cost then other pharmacies

How Is Precocious Puberty Treated?
If your child's doctor suspects that your little one has precocious puberty, he or she may refer you to a pediatric endocrinologist (a doctor who specializes in growth and hormonal disorders in children) for further evaluation and treatment.

Once it's diagnosed, the goal of treating precocious puberty is to halt or even reverse sexual development and stop the rapid growth and bone maturation that can eventually result in adult short stature. Depending upon the cause, there are two possible approaches to treatment:

treating the underlying cause or disease, such as a tumor
lowering the high levels of sex hormones with medication to stop sexual development from progressing
In some cases, treatment of an underlying health problem can stop the precocious puberty from progressing. But in most cases, because there's no other disease triggering the condition, treatment usually consists of hormone therapy that stops sexual development.

Artificial Growth Hormone (gH) is a recombinant biological pharmaceutical. It is made from blending human antibodies with the hormones of various animals. If you have a prescription, you should be able to order it from any pharmacy. I know Walgreens has a specialty pharmacy department that can ship products like these to its stores. If you are looking for a way to order it online or otherwise obtain it less than legally, I would advise against it. The origin and quality of pharmaceuticals purchased online are uncertian - especially for biologicals like this and could result in more major problems for your grand daughter that she is already experiencing.

You can purchase the meds yourself through the pharmacy but you will need a prescription.
