Careful now....
You are describing the frame cross member that holds the engine and transmission in place. First of all use liberal amounts of penetrating oil (like WD40) on the bolt/nuts. Use a good name brand (like Craftsman) 1/2 " breaker bar and a 17 mm hardened six point socket. Use your pipe to extend the leverage but apply constant pressure than back off. What you want to have happen is to get the penetrating oil to get down into the threads. Sudden moves just break things. With patience and the right tools you can get these loose. They are buggers because they are subjected to heat and road corrosion. Good luck!

Pay somebody a couple hundred bucks to do it. If you are having this much problem on a crossmember then you should not be working on taking off the oil pan. The oil pan will not just slip out when you unbolt it.There are main caps, the crank and pick up tube that extend below the block. Thats why the oil pan is so big.You will have to drop the oil pan lower than where the bottom of the pan is to start with. You will also have to unbolt your motor mounts to pick the engine up three or four inches to get the pan out.I am not saying you cant do it , but for somebody that has limited experience as a mechanic , getting the pan off is only half the battle. Getting it back on and sealed with out leaking is a major task. If there is a problem and your fixing it , it wont be 10k miles before something else wears out. I would rather pull a motor completely out than to try to do the under car move.1970's model cars were a pain , now there even smaller with less room to work.

First off get a can of "PB BLASTER" best stuff ever...yes better than WD40. Secondly don't just try and turn it the one why with all your might you gotta finesse it. Spray some PB BLASTER on it wait a minute or two. Push alittle to loosen it. then alittle tightening it. rock it back and forth a few times to get you some leverage. If another one snaps try heating the bolts they'll shrink alittle but make sure you wipe off and oil or pb blaster that may be on the bolt(flamable!) and be careful of any fuel lines in the way. if that doesn't work take it to a mechanic. if it does make sure you take the screws off in the right order(some cars have an order you put the bolts on and take the bolts off) you DO NOT wanna warp anything.

Lucky lad. Broke the socket! Glad you didn't break the bolt. I have seen a special pump for sucking out the oil from a sump, this isn't as good as draining though.
I suspect your not doing something right if you have to take the car half apart to do something so basic any competent engineer would have designed into the car.

Stuck or rusted bolts can be soaked in WD-40, Liquid Wrench or such products to help loosen the grip.
Exhaust bolts normally need at least 200psi behind them to break them freak. You might want to either borrow an air compressor and some air tools or have an exhaust shop at least loosen them all up for you.

I'm sure that they make something that you can spray on rusty bolts. My father use to use it. If not try some good ole WD 40 and let it soak a bit. Has worked for me in the past.
