In the Phantom of the Opera and other musicals do they sing on stage or do they record everyone singing with everyone else like Lady one with both Leads and Vise Versa?

Live actors sing live on stage. You may think it is pre-recorded because today they are usually miked and the voices are usually clear and over a loud speaker as opposed to the days when a singer or actor had to know how to project. Sometimes a voice may come from backstage for a scene, but once again, it is usually being done live.

When making musical movies the singing is recorded. Actual stage shows generally have the singing happening live.

Both. In some places, they pre-record it (talkin bout Phantom) Most of the time they mostly sing on stage, but at some parts have it pre-recored where singing would be difficult because of having to move around alot.
