It's "Odyssey," bud. You'd do well to get a copy; then you'd know how to spell it.

I think it's worthwhile to read a variety of ancient and contemporary literatures. Homo sum: humani nil a me alienum puto. (Know that one, big guy?) That doesn't mean that each ancient literature doesn't have its own genius. For me, the genius of ancient Hebrew literature is that, through the ethos of its prophets, it established the ultimate worth of the human person in the face of all the natural and social forces which alienate and crush him. For a good liberal theological take on the prophets, read Walter Brueggemann's "The Prophetic Imagination." If you're interested in learning anything, rather than just jumpin around here like a monkey.

And you're right: there are profound parallels between many Biblical motifs and the mythologies of cultures surrounding them. My guess is that you don't even know 5% of them, and what you do know, you got from wasting your time cruising around atheist websites. Want a fun one? How about Mark Smith's "The Origins of Biblical Monotheism: Israel's Polytheistic Background and the Ugaritic Texts." Bet you didn't know that YHVH once had a wife.

But the basic problem with you and all your questions is that you're a boring idiot.

If you believe that the Bible is fact and is remnants of our history than it would make sense for there to be many parallel stories of other origin. Look at the flood story, in almost every country there is a similar story. A long time ago, oral history was how things were passed down so as time went on and many races and civilizations came about the same stories would be told, just gradually changed to fit each specific culture. i read as many stories that are parallel to each other because I like to note the diffeences from each culture. It's not about which book you should read to get the right answer, it's about what you believe and the discovery of interesting stories that are so deeply rooted in our past.

Good point, both myths are really similar, but I don't think that's the case of changing from the Bible reading to the Odessy reading :D I think that's because the humanity in general has a sense of the true, even if it is unconscious. Maybe wowen really have some to do with the evilness of the world, cause we've been suffering all kinds of violence all these years without a reason. Everywhere, in every civilization, with very rare exceptions, we are deprived of a lot of rights, even nowadays we still receive lower salaries than men in same position, we still suffer prejudice, and in a lots of ways, we still have to fight to prove that we have the same capacity of men. I've always asked myself why do women have to suffer all that. Maybe that is the answer, maybe that is a punishment, it is not that I agree with it, i just think it could explain a lot.

It's the same wine, in a different bottle. Romeo & Juliet vs West Side Story. The Seven Samari vs The Magnificent Seven. Ozzie & Harriett vs The Cosbys. Pymalion vs My Fair Lady. There are only a few origanal themes in drama. Sheakespear says twelve in all.

I especially like what Pandora did manage to hold onto; Hope...

Many of the world's myths seem to have analogies in Judeo-Christian history. Odd...one might almost think that there was some event which caused such agreement.

Hmm...Eve was punished by God for falling to temptation...Adam was punished by God for falling to temptation. Blaming the woman because she fell to temptation is archaic. Blaming Adam and Eve for falling is God's job (other than to make the historical observation that they did indeed fall).

I am not sure if the Iliad and the Odyssey have Pandora's story in them, though it has been awhile.

Better question might be...Why does the story of Pandora's box parallel the story of Adam and Eve.

The enemy (Satan) knew if he put the seed of doubt into the mind of Eve (("Hath God said? Did he really say that?")) Adam was sure to fall. Satan knew, Adam was spineless. He (Adam) stood there beside Eve and never once said, "Eve, NO, we were commanded not to do that..." He didn't fight for her, he didn't champion for her...he let her down. He was her protector and provider...and He said nothing...

...AND you wonder why women don't want to submit to your leadership men? Take a look a Genesis 3 "The Fall."

When God called Adam on the carpet, Adam didn't want to take responsibility (sound familiar, men) he blames Eve. ((Adam didn't tell Eve not to do it, he then took the fruit and sinned...not even saying no for himself)).

God goes to Eve and she doesn't take responsibility and blames the surpent. (Sound familiar, ladies))?

Amazing what the bible will tell us about how we are the same today as we were then...

That's why Salvation is free! ((Thank God for that one too!!!))

because all women are evil, its just that some are more evil than others???

because maybe women used to have a more open mind, questing nature and all that, until the church went and had itself an inquisition to murder and destroy the inquisitiveness of women?

yeah...why read the bible, when you can go back a few thousand more years into the past, read Sumerian legends and find out that most of the bible was based on thousand year old myths of a people that never heard of Jehovah.

all religions are based on bronze age mythos, trying to explain the universe without understanding it

Good question! great comparisons. I am not sure if the Bible is the true history about religion because f u watch these scientist on tv explain it. Things in the bible might have NEVER happened. So they just might just be stories to make people behave way back then.

Well spotted.
And just like Pandora, Eve was tempted to "open" the forbidden object.
I'm guessing that most of the major myths of the bible have a greek, roman or etruscan counterpart.
I'll have to check for any websites that list them...

inspect it as Greek mythology resembles a female style Eve downfall. Eve became there first. Greek mythology were memories of adult males the position as Genesis account is written by technique of the muse of God.
