Sorry I did initially think it was silver, but then I remembered it is the golden anniversary is one of the most celebrated wedding anniversaries. Being with one person for that length of time is a wonderful statement about the gift of married life. May the Lord bless the couple with many more!
These are the colors:
50th Anniversary Traditional Gift: Gold.
50th Anniversary Contemporary/Modern Gift: Gold.
50th Anniversary Gemstone: Gold or Imperial or Golden Topaz.
Optimism and wealth are often associated with gold.
Gold is beautiful, strong, and resistant to corrosion.
50th Anniversary Color: Gold.
50th Anniversary Flower: Violet
I know you didn't ask but I was reading ideas on about.com...and thought these ideas were very good so I thought I would share them with you.
Celebrating a 50th Anniversary, use sparkly gold glitter on flowers, cards, centerpieces, gift wrap, balloons, etc. For those in the United States, request a greeting from the Whitehouse. Renew your marriage vows. Plan a picnic with paper gold-colored plates and cups.
Consider these gifts for a 50th anniversary, a nice dinner at a special restaurant, a trip, coupons to help with chores, tickets for a movie, sports event, concert, theatre, etc. and wrap with a gold ribbon or an engraved gold photo frame (maybe add the slip of a purchase or make a check out to go to a portrait studio)
If you want to make a gift for the couple, burn a CD with songs from the era of the marriage date, dedicate and create a poem, write it in gold ink, and display it in a gold colored frame. Design and craft a family quilt comprised of each square done by a family member or close friends. Make a wish tree. You can use a big branch that you paint gold and decorate with gold ribbons, ornaments etc. Fill the branches with pictures of major events in your life, people who love and cherish you as well as tickets for a trip, travelers checks, gift certificates for different events and restaurants you could use on a trip, etc.
Assemble a scrapbook album with pictures and stories (ask family members or friends) highlighting the 50 years together. To include along with their meeting each other, courting, their wedding, and all their children, grandchildren, friends, trips taken together, homes lived in, etc. Or create a Time Capsule.
HTH.

Instead of going with the traditional "gold" for the 50th, I would use the same colors that they had in their wedding, same flowers ect. Give the feel of the day back to the day they were married, it adds a touch to it. Also have them dance to the same songs :)
