never been to iceland, but i have been to upper alaska in the winter.....2 hours of daylight, i slept for the first 3 days straight...northern lights are worth the trip alone....colder but less humid so it didn't really seem that cold at fifty below...once i adjusted i partied all the time because it was like one night that never ended!

I've never been to Iceland, but I can tell what I know about it. Iceland is truly a geological wonder. It has mountains, hot springs, volcanoes, waterfalls, rivers, lakes, and so much more. It is a very beautiful country. I'd really like to go there sometime.
I also think that Iceland should be renamed Greenland and Greenland should be renamed Iceland, this'll get rid of the confusion between the two. Greenland is pretty much uninhabitable because it is so icy and cold whereas Iceland experiences seasons in which it is always green.
I hope this is a sufficient and satisfactory answer.

The closest I have been was to fly over Iceland. Usually there are too many clouds to clearly see the island.
Flying from Ireland once, there were no clouds to block the view. Our pilot received permission to drop altitude and he banked to the right and then left as we passed over. He remarked that this was the first time that he had seen Iceland so clearly.
Passengers were actually able to take photos.
It was quite a view.

Iceland is fun if you like going off road. Driving specially adapted 4x4 vehicles up ice walls or to geysers that shoot steam high into the air. Swimming in hot water springs is another pastime. The cost of living is VAST!!! You would have a better holiday in Alaska.

my ancestors came from there. It's just as cold here, in Canada, go figure. Snow is nice for about 30 Min's in winter. If you go, I have heard it is very nice though. The people are friendly and hard to understand. Here in Winnipeg we see the northern lights too, all you have to be is out in the country. Plus we all speak English, or almost all.
My friend went there recently, and he told me in Reykjavik the prices are crazy. make sure you take duty free if you go.
