Before anybody complains about taking things out of context, lets not forget thats just what the satinist falwell,robertson and grahm do all the time.

The Bible is quite clear about this. Disobedient children should be beaten and/or stoned to death for misdeeds.

Any Christian that really believes that children were not frequently and severely beaten in Jesus' time are simply delusional. Children have been the victim of some pretty sound beatings up to 30 years or so ago. The further you go back in history the more children were harshly punished.

Pretending that the rod of correction was some kind of euphemism for something other than beating a child with a stick is just ridiculous and has no basis in truth, history or the Bible. It is just modern day spin used to contradict the Bible since beating children is not as popular as it once was.

The Bible doesn't say "beat your children," it says to discipline them. Discipline in the form of spanking, taking away phones, games etc, not letting them go out and so many other things. And before you call falwell, robertson adn Graham satanists you should examine your own life. The Bible says you will be judged according to how you judge others. So, if Billy Graham is a satanist, then you are screwed.

It's important to remember that Proverbs is a book of wisdom sayings, and many statements are figurative, not meant to be taken literally.

One of the things I find funny is that those who want the rod verses in Proverbs 23 to be taken "literally" to mean "spank," easily read the first two verses of that chapter as figurative. I mean, I haven't heard of anyone advocating throat-slitting for gluttony lately.

Um no for the simple reason we're in the year 2006 not the 24 C.E. There are other ways for handling things, and any God that believes in hurting children is no God of mine.

And spanking is totally different.

And kill them if they're out of control -- Deuteronomy 21:18. It's not just a good idea -- it's the law.. the unchanging law of the ficticious 'god' in the OT who was created by ignorant men.

Metaphor, shmetaphor. The OT justifies and commands many cruelties, which are meant *literally*. And the bible says 'God' doesn't change, that 'his' laws remain unchanging. Looks like the bible isn't 100% 'God', doesn't it.

Not "beaten" but spare the rod, spoil the child is true. There are certain circumstances when a child should be spanked. However, it should never be done out of anger, but out of love and an intention of keeping your child in line and humble.

yes. just as the statement states in proverbs 23:13-14 the is also another statement just in proverbs that state that spare the rod spoil the child.

No. You should not beat them but I think that you should discipline them from the very start of birth. If you get it in their head that they are the children and your the adult then they wont become uncontrolling kids. The term beat in the verses doesn't refer to the term beat for abuse. They have that there in terms of spanking your kids.

"Beat him with a rod" is simply a metaphor for raising children with discipline. Raising children with discipline does not mean that they have to be hit.

Prov 23 does not require corporal punishment, and it definitely does not justify physical abuse of a child.

No you should never beat your children,it's mean.If your kids are being brats take away the things the like the most,if that doesn't work bring in outside help.
