I have had a bad sore throat for 10 days now. I first went to the doctor after the sore throat wouldn't go away after about 5 days. 4 days later, I went again. Both times the doctors simply told me that I had some sort of viral infection, and they couldn't do anything for me.
I don't like this at all. I'm not sick very often, and I rarely have a problem like this. I've tried tons of things to cure the sore throat: advil, lozenges, water, chloraseptic gargle, cepacol, etc...
All of these things help to cure the pain temporarily, but after they wear off the pain just comes back again. I also have blister-like sores on the roof of my mouth which cause pain when trying to swallow. The pain is worst in the morning.
I nearly got into a fight with the 2nd doctor about the whole issue. He claimed that sore throats from viruses can last up to 5 weeks. This is just not acceptable to me. Surely there can be something I can do about this, or some way I can find the cause of the pain!

Your doctors should have prescribed a specific antibiotic since they say that is a viral infection if they didn't you have to get a new doctor, because these are only stealing your money. It may be an infection in your tonsils which can be removed since they are causing you so much trouble. I have blisters on the roof of my mouth too so I know how painful it is. But definitely go see a new doctor there is always a solution for simple things like sore throats no matter how bad they are, (medicine is too advanced). Good luck : )

I assume that you had a swab test done for strep, and that it was negative. If that's the case, then it does seem likely that you have a virus, and that your own immune system will have to do the healing.
The blisters should be discussed with your physician, though, to rule out any other condition or reaction you might be having. The benzocaine sprays and lozenges may have side effects, so be mindful of how often you might be using them.
I'm recovering from a very painful sore throat myself right now, and I found that some sugar-free lozenges and a good gargle with warm salt water gave me some relief--not much, mind you, but some.

I am assuming that the doctor did a throat culture to run a strep test and that it came back negative. It sounds like you may have thrush. That hurts too. You most likely need to get a anti-fungal medication to get rid of that. Plus a mouthwash. I just got over that myself. Not fun. The blisters will make your throat and mouth feel sore. You'll have a whitish film along with the blisters/sores if it's thrush. If you don't treat it it will just continue to get worse. There is an over the counter mouthwash that can help with that. It's used for thrush and to help chemo patients with their mouth sores.
My advice to you is to talk to your local pharmacist about your symptoms. See what is recommended for treatment. If you don't feel better in a few more days then seek treatment from a different doctor. Try a different clinic, or an urgent care clinic.

If possible try to visit an ENT (Ear/Nose/Throat) doctor regarding this issue. If and when you are ever unhappy or untrusting of *any* medical professional's diagnosis, etc. then by all means get a second opinion or flat out drop the one doctor and find another.
In the meantime, you could research your symptoms via webmd.com and the like and you might could get some additional information and/or some suggestions for relief.
Good luck...hope you feel better soon!

If the doctor is trying to tell you nothing's wrong when plainly something is, it's time to get a new doctor. And a bad sore throat + blisters sounds like a real problem to me.
Talk to an ear/nose/throat specialist. Since the standard treatments aren't doing anything for you, it's time to get out the heavy artillary- so to speak.
Good luck!

maybe you have a viral type thing called thrush....there is a mouth wash that the dr can give you...my daughter had it and there is something that you can swab a childs mouth with or gargle with if you are an adult...there is also "magic mouth wash"...it has lidocaine in it and causes a numbing effect...you should also ask for blood work to make sure your white cell count is OK. and have them test you for mono...if you cannot get any satisfaction with your dr then go to the local emergency room..

This time when you gargle with salt and warm water, squeeze some lemon juice into it and then gargle.. It will definately help.
Have ginger juice with honey in it.
Have a teaspoon of honey with powered black pepper in it.
Drink warm water instead of cold water.
Do not eat any kind of oily, greasy and fatty items for some day.
Sometimes it is also stress that induces such illness. See that you are getting rest amidst your activity.
Good luck and take care

Try gargling with Listerine. Then apply a Listerine patch to to the sores on the roof of your mouth. I have had the same thing, and this really works very well.
