Any Diesel will be able to do this. Any Gas 3/4 or 1 ton would be able to as well. The diesel would be more expensive to buy, but be more efficient and more powerful over the life of the truck. It's all about if you'd rather spend money now or later.
Most likely a 1/2 ton would be able to pull this, since it would have enough power too, but the suspension would probably be bottomed out.

A 3/4 ton will do the job just fine. I have a 3/4 ton and I have pulled a bumper pull car trailer numerous times with with different cars and trucks on it and never had any problems and I have a gas engine. As far as 4x4 it would probably be a good idea especially if you ever go anywhere where it is muddy if you don't then don't worry about it. And finally I would probably go with a diesel the Dodge diesel is a 6 cylinder and I here a lot of good stuff about them. That what my next truck will be

Four horses constitutes a lot of weight. I would go big, 1 ton at least and a dually configuration for the rear axle. 4X4 is nice if you need it for mud/snow etc, but pricey and drops the mileage if you don't need it. Diesel will give you the low end torque you need for pulling that weight and give you acceptable mileage down the highway. So a 1 ton 4x4 dually with a diesel will probably set you back as much as a Mercedes Roadster, but then you will have your horses along for the ride.

Definately need 4x4 unless you want the horses to be pulling the truck more than the other way around... With gas prices the way they are, just estimate how much your full trailer will weigh and get the smallest engine that can competently pull that weight.

That's a lot of weight---what, about 3 tons with the trailer, do you think?

Definitely a diesel and probably a dually. The 4X4 aspect depends on whether you'll be on muddy ground, snow, etc.

You need a Chevrolet or GMC diesel.
