Depends on the intersection, how many cars waiting to turn left, whether I'll be able to continue driving after the light (why prevent the cars from turning left if all I'm going to do is inch forward), etc.

A car turning left on a yellow/red turn arrow caused me to get in an accident once. Real drag. My car was totalled, I had to pay over $10K for a new one (on top of what my insurance paid for my old car), and the other guy's passenger wanted to file a claim for pain and suffering against ME, even though it was clearly the other guy's fault.

Now I watch a little more for idiots and jerks "blowing through the orange" (as we in high school used to call flooring it on a yellow/red) but I think I've just become a more conscientious driver as I've gotten older (I'm 38) - my main concern when making these types of decisions is how do I keep traffic flowing.

It all depends...if I'm back quite far, then I will slow down and stop. If it turns yellow and I'm pretty close, and know I can make it, I will keep going. And no, it has never caused a wreck, so my decision is the same at all times. (although once I was going straight through a yellow and a car turning across the intersection thought they were going to do the same thing and almost ran into the side of me).

SPEED UP!!!! Unless it has been yellow for a while. No never been in a wreck however I make sure that I can make it through the light while it is still yellow. Once it is red, you are no longer beating a yellow light... you are running a red one.

it depends on the situation. if you are coming up to the light or intersection, and it is just turning yellow, you will have enough time to get through without having to floor it. However, if you are a good distance back from the light, say, maybe 100-200 feet, then you will not be able to get through in time, and if you floor it, you most likely will end up going through a red light, meaning that you should probably stop at the light from that distance.

I believe accelerating on a yellow is a ticket. Though unless you had a fast car with loud exhaust how would they know. Never had a wreck this way. I think it would be more with Left turns that this could be a problem.

Depends where you are when the yellow hits. However, given the option, I will slow down and stop. It annoys the crap out of me when people run yellow lights as this can cause major accidents. And I ALWAYS beep the horn loudly at those who do run yellow/red lights and cause me to have to wait when it is a green light.

I wouldn't know. I'm in Miami, so Red means GO. I thought they flashed yellow just to wake up people who fell asleep waiting for the light to change.

If you are on the line or past it, then hit the gas, but if you have not gotten to the line yet it is wise to lock it up and stop.

Don't go faster, just keep going if you can make it and, if not, then slow down.
