Yes, juice will cause diarrhea. He should only have 4 ounces of juice a day. After that, it's just sugar water. Try getting a sippy cup with a soft spout. They have some at Wal-mart. It will feel more like a bottle. The bottle is his comfort item, no wonder he doesn't want to give it up. Be firm about not giving him more than one cup of juice a day. If he doesn't want to take the milk cup from you, just put it on the table where he can reach it and walk away. Chances are he will realize that it's the end of the discussion and if he really is thirsty, he will drink the milk. Remember, water is a good option for a between the meal drink. Good luck.

Ok, he cannot refuse anything because he's on 13 months old! He only does what you allow him to do, and this is not healthy for him. Take the bottle away completely, don't even let him see one. Get the sippy cups with the rubber-type spout, and put milk in it! Don't give in, it's making him sick drinking juice all day. And gatorade? No, no, no. Gatorade is so full of sugar, it will make the diarrhea worse!!

Very simple, everytime he wants the sippy cup. Just put milk in it and dont give him a bottle at all. At 13 months he should be off th bottle because it will start to rot his teeth. If the juice has no sugar in it, it shouldnt cause the poops. If it makes you feel better, give him water instead of juice and gatorade isnt good either, give him pedialyte. That works much better. But yeah just reverce it, put milk in the cup and have him throw the bottle in the garbage himself. That worked with my son. Good luck

Yes to much juice of the can cause the poops! Give him water in his cup as well. Try different kinds of cups. NO MORE bottle at all. Put milk in the cup and give it to him. If he is thirsty he will drink it. Just keep giving it back to him. No more juice for a while until he accepts the milk in a cup. Water and milk.

As far as getting runs from the juice, try giving him a piece or two of cheese with a cup of juice. My twins could not tolerate juice and had the same problem, and because cheese tends to solidify a 'bm', this method really helps.
As far as the child's preferences go, you have the final say over how many cups of juice he drinks in a day! You are the one in charge of making sure he gets the proper amount of juice and milk, and after that just give him water.
If he still craves sweets after that, then try giving a snack of fruit and veggies with crackers and cheese or peanut butter dip. That should help him to enjoy a good glass of water!
You should also try to give him water in a regular cup, he may be associating the sippy cup with sweet juicy drink, and water is the perfect way to help our young ones learn how to drink from a cup. There is no messy cleanup with water, it dries without staining, and helps to wash some of the sticky fingers leftover from snack time!

I had the same problem... yes the juice causes the poops for a baby. my son is 14mos old and he now drinks milk from a sippy cup. there is a certain cup its called "nubby" it has a nipple just like a bottle but its a cup kids love it well at least my son does. try not to give him too much juice is his problem that he doesn't like the milk or he doesn't want it from a sippy cup? if its because he doesn't like the milk keep giving it to him eventually he'll drink it.

i hope ur not giving him straight juice, always do half water & half juice especially if its from concentrate. yes juice will cause diarrhea, cuz the acid/concentrate is too harsh for their stomachs. my daughter can't drink any citrus or orange juice unless i add water. also try giving him milk in a cup w/o a lid like at meal time & of course don't fill it to the top, just refill small amounts. he'll come around. good luck!!!

Juice can cause stomach upset, empty calories and diahrea. Not to mention sugar isn't great for infant teeth. Water is best from a cup. He'll drink when he is thirsty. If you feel uncomfortable with that, give him watermelon, honeydew, or other fruits to nibble on.

Stop giving him juice and give him only water or a cup of milk...he won't thirst to death, he will eventually drink what is available...that much juice isn't good!
