It is normal for you to have a heavier flow for the next several periods, but if it is so bad that you are going through more than a pad in an hour there may be reason for concern and you should see your doctor. If there is a foul odor present with the increased bleeding there could be a major problem and you should go to the emergency room. There could be more placenta attached to the uterine wall and you could become septic, which could give you blood poisoning. Hope this helps.

I was the same: gave birth naturally and had episotomy. My first period was excruciatingly painful on the first day, like contractions all over again. It was also very heavy and had clots too. It also lasted 9 days, where pre pregnancy it lasted 6 days. I've had 3 periods since I had my wee one and gradually they seem to be getting a bit more normal. Just normal crampy and the usual tiny clots. Still a bit heavier and longer, but oh well. But from what you say you sound normal to me... Good luck and have fun with your wee one... The early days pass so quickly. x

Heavy and even long periods are common for many of us for the first several after we give birth. If you are worried OR bleeding through a pad in less than an hour for several consecutive hours OR having other worrisome symptoms do call your OBGYN. Keep us posted.

Normal. You are fine. Your period is going to be a bit heavier after you have a baby - for the next few months. Not to worry. I would say that if you are soaking a pad an hour, check in with your doctor.

Usually small clots aren't a problem, but I think it's if they are larger than a quarter you should go to the doctor! Call and ask your doc's office what they think.

Are you lightheaded or dizzy? If so, go to your doc or ER. Do you still have your hospital discharge instructions? If you're not so worried, research them, then call your doc.
