They put their lives on the line each and everyday -if you would risk your life for a stranger it should be for a cop or firefighter as far as I'm concerned.

To be honest it depends entirely upon the situation. I will not throw myself into a strangers fight, but should I feel like I could prevent someone from dying I would undoubtedly feel an altruistic calling to help a fellow human in need.

Scenario one: A guy with a gun is sneaking up on a police officer on the other side of the street and I notice this.
Possibly all that would be needed would be yelling "Hey look out!!! He's got a gun!!!" and then I could run away if the gun man started shooting at me and that would give the cop a chance to spring on the guy. Life saved!!!!

Scenario two: I see twenty men with guns about to shoot a lone officer.
I would avoid getting killed with him and then report what I saw as soon as I could. I'm not Superman, twenty guys with guns outnumber me and bullets really mess a guy up.

Scenario Three: A police officer falls off of a bridge into a river and I see it nearby from a boat.
I would rescue him and tell him that he ought to practice swimming with his bulletproof vest more often because I'm not always going to be nearby in a boat like this.

So really it all comes down to the specific situation. I can't make a broad sweeping yes or no answer here.

As the daughter of one and girlfriend of another and a friend of many, I honestly can't believe some of the answers to this question. Of course I would...there's just too many people that sit back and do nothing in too many situations and I find that very appalling. But god forbid someone sits back and does absolutely nothing while their life, or their loved ones lives are on the line.

If I could help anyone I would surely hope to have that kind of courage, we never know until we are put to the test. A police Officer is another human being.

Depends on the situation. If I saw that an officer were getting their butt kicked, and I knew I could help, I would certainly do so. I would do this for almost anyone.

Would I die for an officer? No more than they would die for me (which by in large is a fantasy)

depends is he drowning or getting shot at. i would pull his butt out of a car wreck, but generally i would try to save anyone in danger if i felt i could accomplish the feat at hand. but i am not superman, nor am i bullet proof

No.
My family needs me more than someone who put himself in the line of fire.

If I had a concealed carry permit I would consider it my duty.
