Yes. The positions for yoga are all derived to pertain to a certain god in the Buddhist religion. Every position had it's own god, and by forming that position with your body, it was to worship that god, or pray to him/her.

I'm not sure when the specific forms of yoga were developed, but since he was Hindu he may well have done it.
