this law firm claim to have purchased the balance now thay are affter me why did they do that and that was 20 years ago what is going on

Dont worry about it, the statute of limitations is up if you are in the states. They are not a law firm, rather a collection agency. Tell them in writing (certified) that you no longer wish contact with them other than certified mailings or in a court - they will go away. If the persist, and it actually is a law firm, file a complaint with the local bar association and the states atrny's offic

You need to call a lawyer
there is probably a statute of limitations

if they contact you again tell them you Need everything in writing mailed to you before you will do anything

then just call a lawyer and ask if there is a statute of limitation in your state
do not give them anything until then

sounds like a scam to me

See another attorney. This sounds like a scam. Law firms don't buy paper to collect debts from.
