Listen, this is such as pointless argument. The very best you can hope for is to get abortion outlawed in the US. Poor women will then suffer having back street abortions and rich women will fly to an enlightened country to have her abortion.
So no matter what angle you attack this issue abortion will always exist.
My question however to all you pro-life types is why you are not up in arms about the real issue of infant mortality. In a recent study America ranked 32/33 nations for infant mortality. The rate among African Americans was nearly 1 in 100 baby deaths.
This infant mortality rate is utterly shocking for such a rich country as America. The reason it is so high is because in America good health care is a privilege of the rich, not a basic human right.
So you can argue the abortion issue all you like, but every day babies are born and will die, not because of abortion but because health care is just a greedy corporate business in this country.
Why don't we sort out the health care industry in this country first so that wanted babies stop dying needlessly and stop worrying about ideologies surrounding abortion?

I disagree. The cause of abortion is material dependance and social structure. For example a private school that fires a teacher because she is single and pregnant eventhough she could support the child on her own. I remember that happening a year ago.
We punish people who don't get pregnant in the ideal circumstances then are surprised that others in those circumstances don't want to have a child. The problem isn't that we punish them, it is that we increase the problems that it can cause for the potential parent and child.
Besides the idea that you can just make abortion illegal and it will go away is just wrong. A fetus is too fragile. Most of us have a drug in our cabinents that is potent enough that if we inject it straight into the fetus to cause a miscarriage. The idea that you can stop abortions by merely making it illegal is wishful thinking.

you're right. abortion is about fairness and appreciation of your own life. that is why i am pro choice.
my reason is, that every one loses when abortion is banned. it is a terrible practice, but it is worse to have to deal with all the ugliness of making sure it is prohibited. i don't support behaviors that lead to unwanted pregnancies, but i also think that people should be able to make intimate decisions for themselves.
that means i think you should know how your body works. you should know how a baby is born. and if someone has this knowledge and still decides that they cannot have a baby that is living inside them, i would prefer to trust them that they know what is best for all parties, better than i could. because i don't think it is fair to examine someone else's life and sex over an honest mistake. or because someone else already violated them through rape and incest.
that is what you would have to do if it was only allowed in "extreme circumstances". the incest victim will be forced to fill out forms and be examined by a dr to make sure she was really raped. not to catch the rapist, to make sure she wasn't enjoying it somehow. how could you prove such a thing? and i think that is much more horrifying. the gateway of life may be something we all prize, but it is also a part of someone else's body. and i think they should be armed with the ability to make their own choices.
a law begins with intent, and ends with enforcement. we shouldn't ignore any of its parts.

I agree with you 110%. I have never been a fan of abortion (except in extreme cases), so I do not understand why people choose to have abortions.
Just an FYI, did you know that Roe of Roe vs. Wade wanted an abortion but had a daughter instead. Her daughter is pro-choice. Talk about irony.

You don't have a clue what abortion is all about. I would be pro abortion if my parents HAD decided to abort me.
What about the people who should never be allowed to be parents. Here's God again...watching out for the little children.

Yes. I think that people should have absolute choice over their own bodies...after all, that is the only thing that is truly yours. Why would I care if my parents aborted me? I would be non-existent, and wouldn't have the consciousness that is required to give a sh*t.

I do wish my parents had aborted me or put me up for adoption, since they made it obvious to me all my life that I was an unwanted child. No one should grow up like that just because some righteous prick thinks abortion is wrong, and they should suffer raising a child because they made a mistake.

I was an unplanned child. However I'm still pro-choice.
Whether or not I could have been aborted is irrelevant.

Abortion is about what is God's will and purpose in your life. God invented abortion and uses it daily. It God wanted me aborted, then it would have happened. It is not what my parents think that counts.
