It depends. Some girls really mean that they need some space to sort out their thoughts/feelings and such. Usualy this happens after a tragic event in their life or just something that rocked their emotional state, ya' know? If everything in her life seems to be going great, then it might mean "I'm breaking up with you".

This is tricky territory. "I need space" usually is a sign that things are going to fast. When your with someone that you really like and care about, you don't see what the other is feeling. Asking them about it is a great start. But, be careful. If you are going to ask don't be over bearing, this could push them away even more. They might see it as not respecting their decision. unfortunately, relationships take time, even in the in-between parts. Almost every person has doubts. And its not because they care about you any less, It's because no one wants to think that they are missing out on what else is out there. If it is hard to pass the time while you wait, make some major plans. Keep as busy as possible!

Well I think she just means that she wants some space because she has a lot of things on her mind. If I were you I would ask her, ask her if she wants to be single and if you are going to take a break ask her why.

The best thing to do is give the other person what they ask for. Most times they will then be able to see if the relationship is really what they are looking for. Trust me, I did this and it worked out exactly as I had hoped. If I hadn't given her space, we would never have been together for 11 years as we are today

It means they are probably breaking up with you. But maybe you should give them the space they need and then maybe he will realize he misses you. In any case get on with your life.

" i need space"
what goes around comes around. and some breaks are usefull in a relationship. try to have a talk with her ehen you get her relaxed and ask her if she is satisfied with the relationship. what means this relationship for her? what can you do to emproove things? what she can do? or maybe it's a problem from outside the relationship that bothers her... ask her..if it is, then probably she'll need some time to solve the problems that she has.
a tip? offer your suppor if she has to solve something... pretend that you are interested...she will be glad. know for sure.

Depends on the person and situation. If you're dating, probably, if married, it may mean "I need space, back off for a little bit"
