Lots of experience, yes, but knowledge will really go a long way toward success. A background in psychology and law would help. There are a lot of books on the subject - my advice is to read a bunch, and then decide which make the most sense to you. But basically, if you want to persuade someone to do something, you need to first of all look at it from their viewpoint, and find the places where you can oblige. You never get angry, you always think before you answer, and you never lose sight of the fact that each person you meet is unique and very important in their own eyes at least.

You probably already have them, and acquired them as a child when asking your family and friends for things... Think about it. You can also get them by taking sales courses (that is a large part of sales) or just building your vocabulary.
