i've had 5 cats that have done that and each cat had been seperated from their mother early. cats do it for security. often the cats that do nurse necks, eyes, etc. suffer from anxiety. don't get mad at your kitty it means it loves you and trusts you. so just push her aways gently and pet her.

They could have been separated from their mommy too early. I have 2 cats that lick ("kiss") me a lot, often in bed because that's when I'm laying still and they can reach me. Both were rescues, one was bottle-raised, and still tries to suckle, and the other was weaned too early. They see me as "mom", and kiss, snuggle, and knead bread just like they've never grown up.

I believe it has to do with salt but i also think it has something to do with relaxing the cat. My cat will do that at bed time, if i push her away she will just go do it to my husband and after a minute she falls asleep.

They groom the other cats in their family and she's showing that you're a part of her pack. She probably interprets you petting her as licking.

Kitties just have little quirks -- just like people. Since you're the cat's "people" aka family -- he/she's just doing what comes naturally. The kitty likes to groom before going to sleep, so he/she is grooming you. It's a sign of affection -- just enjoy it. I used to have one that had to "wash my face" every night at bedtime. It was her job and she was insistent that she fulfill her obligation! I hated it at the time, but really miss it now.

They are licking for the taste of the salt that is secreted from our sweat glands.
