You have a point. If heaven is so great, and if you follow the recipe of religious life, you are going there, why worry about death at all. I believe that the faithful have human created holes in their faith. What if that thing I did ten years ago really was not forgiven? Is there REALLY a heaven? Lack of absolute faith seems to be a human quality....

Because those close to that person will no longer be able to associate with them. To be more specific and close to home, a husband and wife that I work with were out on their motorcycle last Saturday when a car came through the intersection without stopping and T-Boned them. The wife was pronounced dead at the scene and the husband is still in ICU. I have worked with both of them for almost nine years and I can tell you the wife was an absolute sweeheart. We are all going to miss her.

As for why people are scared of death is because it is general human nature to be afraid of the unknown? Is there an afterlife? Where will you be if there is?

It's a tragedy because they will miss the passed person's presence in their lives here on earth.

People are scared of death because they fear the unknown and change of any kind in general. Heck you can't even change a process at work without people getting up in arms about "that's the way it's always been done" because they are so afraid of change.

Death is a lot bigger than that. It's a complete change of their way of life.

Its a tragedy for them to leave us sooner than hoped. And most are afraid there maybe nothing after life, even if they have some belief in an afterlife. Of course if you don't need there to be a heaven waiting for you then why be afraid. Live your life to the best you can.The people around you are your forever. How do you want to be remembered.

God made us with the desire to live, not the desire to die. Regarding the way God made humans, the Bible says: “He has even put eternity into their minds.” (Ecclesiastes 3:11, Byington) This means that ordinarily people desire to live on and on, without dying. Due to this desire for an endless future, men have long searched for a way of staying young forever.

Where is it that humans normally want to live forever? It is where they have become used to living, here on earth. Man was made for the earth, and the earth for man. (Genesis 2:8, 9, 15) The Bible says: “He [God] has founded the earth upon its established places; it will not be made to totter to time indefinite, or forever.” (Psalm 104:5) Since the earth was made to last forever, then man also should live forever. Surely a loving God would not create humans with a desire to live forever and then not make it possible for them to fulfill that desire!—1 John 4:8; Psalm 133:3.

Scientists have long known about the human body’s power to renew itself. By wonderful means the body cells are either replaced or repaired, as the need may be. And it seems that this process of self-renewal should go on forever. But it does not, and this is something that scientists cannot explain. They still do not fully understand why people grow old. They say that, under right conditions, humans should be able to live forever.—Psalm 139:14. A leading authority on aging wrote: “After performing the miracles that take us from conception to birth and then to sexual maturation and adulthood, nature chose not to devise what would seem to be a more elementary mechanism to simply maintain those miracles forever.” Yes, considering our miraculous makeup, the question lingers, Why do we have to die?

Yes, God created man from the earth to enjoy life on earth forever. He did not create humans to live for a little while here on earth then go to live in heaven. Although the first human couple disobeyed God, thus proving to be unfit to live forever, God’s original purpose did not change. It must be fulfilled! (Isaiah 55:11) The Bible promises: “The righteous themselves will possess the earth, and they will reside forever upon it.” (Psalm 37:29) Often the Bible tells of God’s arrangement to give humans who serve him everlasting life.—John 3:14-16, 36; Isaiah 25:8; Revelation 21:3, 4.

Heaven awaits those who have received Jesus Christ as their savior, and have been washed in His blood for the remission of sins. Jesus himself said; I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man comes to the Father but through me.

Simply being a good person is not good enough, but God has made a way for us - "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is a gift from God." Another way of putting "and that not of yourselves" is, "lest any man should boast." Can you imagine the clamor in heaven if people were at the gates asking to get in based upon their good works?
What good works? What kind? How many? How often? Were you nice to little old ladies? Did you ever lie? Did you ever steal? Did you ever commit adultery? Did you ever cheat? and on and on it would go.

Here is the simplicity of the gospel message - "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. And, the "wages of sin is death." But, The free gift of God is eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ."

So there it is. God is reaching out to man through His son Jesus. Man does not have to reach God nor try and be perfect which we cannot be anyways. If one is serious about finding the truth - then
"Seek the Lord while He may be found. Call upon Him and He will answer." Ask God to reveal Himself to you and He will. I guarantee it.

Blessings -

Vinnie

if you believe in the lord then you shouldn't look at death as a tragedy but as a renewal of life. although i do understand what you are saying. when someones dies their bodies are then pain free from the abuse down here. the reason why so many are afraid of dying is because its the unknown that scares them. just believe in God.

Because the people who remain living surely miss the ones they have lost. If someone told me someone I love was going on a vacation that would last the rest of my life and I would never see this person again, I'd be just as distressed.

It's more of a celebration of life, and sadness that we will not be around them for the rest of our lives. The afterlife is an unknown. Even those of us who believe that they will go to heaven don't really know what it will be like, or if we will be able to recognize family and friends.
