How come at a funeral, the minister, etc. never says the person is going to hell? I mean, they all teach that if you're bad your going to hell and burn, but you never hear that at a funeral. It's always, they are going to heaven to be with God. Even if the person committed suicide and no matter how bad they were. Since the minister, etc. doesn't really know then isn't he lying and sinning himself, and since he suppose to know the truth, is he not greiving the holy spirit? You're not suppose to say something that's not truth just to make someone feel better because you would be sinning wouldn't you?

Then should not the minister, etc. not say that they are going to heaven as well since they do not know? My true question is, How can they stand there and lie knowing it's wrong and they would be greiving the holy spirit?

That would be a bit impersonal to say that at a funeral at someone's death wouldn't it.

People mourn regardless of how bad the person who died might have been and a comment like that would be completely out of place.

It would be a bit like passing a phone message to a work colleague to say their wife has died and by the way have you done that job yet. Oh well thats my opinion.

Biblehelp - you sent me an email about one of your previous questions but you are not accepting emails and you deleted the question as well. Did you want me to respond?

Because no man could ever know this unless he was visited by the person after their death (and even then, it could be an illusion or a trick of the devil). Only God knows a human's soul.

A deathbed conversion is a rare, but true blessing that occurs with some.

Well it would be very funny to watch the minister saying to the debastating family that their familiar is going to BURN IN HELL as a payment of his sins that he commited in this lifetime!!! Besides everybody knows there is no hell.. it was just invented by the church to scare people and make them pay tribute and attend church services.

Because the job of the Pastor is to comfort the living at a funeral. And saying the loved one went to hell is not comforting.

It's hypocritical, for sure.

Wow, this is an amazingly good question. I'm sorry that I don't really have an answer though. I guess maybe because no one can truly judge a person except God?

For one, funerals are for clousure...but more importantly, do we really know the midn of the recently deceased? Has he or her 'made his poeace' with the Maker? Not for us to decide. In addition I believe that all our sins were forgiven upon Chirst's death...so, we all get there...
