All the suggestions so far are excellent, and they all have merit in their own way. Another option in conjunction with those listed is this. Do you have a video recorder (VCR)? If so they can often interfere with CH5 signals, sometimes causing the symptoms you describe, while other times the CH5 broadcast may disappear altogether. This can happen because CH5 broadcasts on frequency 35, which is close to the frequency of most video recorders. Depending on your model of video recorder, you may need to remodulate the video recorder so it operates on a different frequency, by moving it further up, or down, the waveband. Your video manual should tell you how to remodulate the video recorder. This will mean, of course, that you will have to retune the video channel on your TV so that you can carry on using your video recorder.
If you can do all this, it will improve your CH5 signal manyfold. It is a fiddly job to do, but it only needs to be done once. I have done this myself some time ago and have never had a problem with CH5 since then.
I hope this helps you sort out your picture and sound problems. Good luck with all these suggestions.

If the reception is snowy than you are still using analogue signal. I have an analogue TV that even does not have a scart lead connection. But I have a digital decoder connected to the TV via VCR, and the reception is excellent for all channels. And I use a very basic indor antenna.

Hi, if you live in an area that has a bad signal you might never be able to get it perfectly, but you could try a booster ariel these help you recieve the signal to get a clearer picture and sound, i now its channel 5 and should be on number 5 but have you tried the higher up channels like 20 upwards, this might work and check if you have it tuned it in propley, hope this helps

Freeview is good, enhances C5 and you get other channels to all for around a £40 one of payment.
*I sound like an advert now*
You'll need to go digital sooner or later anyway cos the analouge signal will be switched of in the future.

Don't bother - it's probably more entertaining your way. Channel 5 is not worth watching IMHO.
