If Jesus was crucified on Friday afternoon and resurrected on Sunday morning, how was he dead for three days and three nights? It doesn't add up; that only comes out to two nights and a day.

Nothing is suprising in Christian math. But there is one more significant concern about crucifiction.

ROmans never took ppl of the cross after punihsment. The whole idea of crucifiction is for others to see. And they did not allow burry those ppl in normal tombs since they were the lowest class. Roman crucifiction was well documented and Jesus was no exception. In that time for those ppl he was criminal and low class regardless who he was. So the idea of physical resurection was added later.

Therefore ppl have no idea what crucifiction is.

To understand this "three days" issue, it is important to understand the Jewish calendar and what constitutes a day. You may have noticed that currently, the Jewish holidays noted on any calendar "begins at Sundown" the day before the actual holiday that is observed. Using this viewpoint, Friday evening of Crucifixion day would be considered day 1 (Friday), Saturday would be day 2, and therefore Sunday would be day 3.

I hope this helps you - I had the same question when I first became a Believer and follower of Jesus Christ.

The typical response is that the crucifixion probably actually happened on Thursday. They get this by noting that everyone was in a hurry to prepare for passover, which would have begun at sunset Thursday. This still only gives you 2 days and 3 nights, and the Bible is very clear that it was 3 days and 3 nights.

I guess this is just another miracle of the Bible where 2 = 3.

You have to count the way Jewish culture does.
They count Friday as the first day, because He was crucified between 6am and 6pm, which is the Jewish day. And then Jesus rose from the dead after 6am on Sunday, the third day.

My preacher said Jesus was crucified before Friday. I dont know the days I just know what the Bible says. Man has a way twisting things around so that things are so confusing. I just believe and not question it. Jesus loves you.

I've been told that with Jews of His time that if you spent any part of a day doing anything, it counted as a day. And all days started at sunset the day before.

Jesus was buried slightly before sunset Friday, so it wasn't Saturday yet. He was in the tomb all day Saturday. Sunset Saturday was the beginning of Sunday, and He rose at dawn Sunday. That made three days according to their calculations.

Where does it say this in the Bible, Jesus told the people, that if they destroyed the temple, he could rebuild it in 3 days, and Jesus was talking of us having the Holy Spirit in us, from his sacrifice, are bodies now hold the Holy Spirit, making us the new temple.

He rose "on the third day." He died Friday (Day one). Went to Hell and beat up on Lucifer a little on Saturday (Day two). And the resurrected on Sunday (Day three).

doesn't say three days and three nights: it says "ON THE THIRD DAY..." So Friday is the first day, Saturday is the second, and yes, Sunday is, say it with me now, the third day.
