Thats why most people choose Islam today. You see so many versions of the Christianity that people don't know if that was the way it was when it first brought down. Islam is alot more secure about it.One creater(Allah) one Prophet that brought the religion down.Christianity has been chaged so it could be the way it fits best with people. They don't want to get up in the middle of the night to pray so they chose make so it be on Sunday when it would be better for them.I could go on with this all day but unfortunatley I can't so IM me for more. ;)

Muslims have been arguing and fighting with each other since Islam was founded as well. Christians all believe in christ too. The point is simply this. People have the need to be right. Things left to personal interpretation leave room for free thought, and argument. I find it interesting that you ask a question then immediatly switch to how your religion is somehow better than the one you question. Isn't that a microcosm of what you are asking anyways?

There are two answers to this. The first is that the division is the result of sin. That is the over simplified answer. The second is simpler. People started believing they alone had the correct understanding and rejected everyone else.

Christianity was fractious even in the first century, but held together pretty well until the 16th century. Although there was the "great schism," between Constantinople and Rome, there was never a complete end of contact between the East and the West. The Great Schism is a schism not of belief but of world views. It is also finally nearing an end. The split at Chalcedon was more poltical than religious. The split occured along the lines of political power. This is at least partially true of the "great schism," as well.

Christianity did not split into denominations until the 16th century. Prior to the Protestant revolt, belief was relatively simple. The Reformation was a revolt against extreme corruption in the Church. The only problem was they were as corrupt as the people they split from. They split along lines of belief and politics. The German princes and in England, Henry VIII, realized that this would be a cash windfall of unbelievable proportions. This was a civil war within Christianity and it was a bloody war with extreme attrocities on both sides. When people start killing other people, saying "oops, I am sorry," doesn't work.

Actually it does work, but it is extremely difficult. Look at the Armenian genocide. Even today, Turkey refuses to acknowledge it. Look at the Rape of Nanking, try finding it in the Japanese school history books. When people die, it is very difficult to fix things. You really have to say you were wrong and sorry.

The split in Christianity from one overarching community to 46,000 communities was a result of two things. The first was that theology was used as a war banner. Even if the theological idea was terrible, people died for it and so it was fixed in place. The second was that in Protestantism there developed an idea that you could split and revolt any time you disagreed with your brethern. There is still but one Catholic Church containing Churches of both the East and the West, but there are 46,000 Protestant ones claiming to be the correct one. Each Protestant one has a different view of what is true and rejects the other views. All forms of Protestantism, just about, are variations of ideas in Catholicism, just made extreme.

A few years ago, the Presbyterian Church and the Lutheran Church sought formal union. The membership rejected it. It turns out that the Presbyterian Church and the Lutheran Church are each closer to the Catholic Church in thinking than they are to one another. Most protestants are against what they believe the Catholic Church is and what it professess than what it really is and what it really believes. The Catholic Church is one because it thrives on its internal diversity. There is more diversity within the Catholic Church than across all of Protestantism. There are forms of Christianity present in the Catholic Church that have existed from the first century, but which have no analog at all in Protestantism.

The split is because people killed people over ideas, many of them good and many of them poorly formed, but we haven't yet figured out how to fix it and let everyone keep their dignity. No one really wants to be wrong.

The interesting thing is, Protestantism and Western Catholicism are just two different sides of the same coin. They are not really that far apart although there tends to be drift from time to time apart and together. Catholicism's standard of truth is "what was believed across the entire church across all time." That is why it holds together. Protestantism's standard of truth is to take passages they choose from scripture and to string them together in a logic train and develope a belief from it. Because restringing the beliefs in different ways generates different results, you get 46,000 distinct Protestant denominations. If someone finds a new way to string the beliefs together you get an entirely new community. The standard isn't the belief across time and place, but rather their understanding here and now.

Christians believe they are inspired by the holy spirit. If they are so divided, that could only mean that the holy spirit has undergone a series of mutations.
According to the 3 in 1 saying, the holy spirit is part of god, so that means god lost in the fight with mutation and evolution.

It all started with some people who didn't believe in some of the rules of the Catholic church. They all believe that Jesus is the Son of God, but some focus their worship on Jesus more than God.Catholics along with worshiping God and Jesus, worship Saints such as Mary Jesus's Mother. Other christians don't believe in worshipping saints. Jahovah's Witnesses don't celebrate certain holidays because it isn't mentioned in the bible.
It's all based on the focused worship of that certain sect.
This is the best I could answer you...hope it helps.

People have different beliefs when it comes to religion because it is all based on faith (or whatever you feel).

This question has the same answer as why PEOPLE are divided into so many religions in the first place. No one knows the answers, but some people like to think they do.

Though Christians are of many denominations, they basically all believe in God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

well because people are people and are all different. The thing about Islam is that supposedly you all agree on whats what, but kill each other each and every day IN THE NAME OF ISLAM, and kill others who don't agree with you. Not much of a religion does that eh?

I'm not what you'd consider to be a very religious person. But, I think the reason there is so many different versions of christianity is because the bible is so open to interpretation. Three people can read the same passages, and have three different ideas of what it means. (I.E.---Cleanliness is next to Godliness, Some people tell me this means Cleanliness of the soul, others beleive good hygeine)---maybe a simplistic example but you can see what I mean.

except that some believe allah is OK with suicide bombers, others don't believe that, and others still believe something in the middle.
it isn't that there is something wrong with anyone in particular (except those that believe in suicide bombin).. it's that someone gets fanatical about a single aspect of a much larger picture.
There is no absolute agreement between all religion bases... which is why your question shouldn't be reserved for just Christians.
