Biscuit dough with no leavening will produce one of a number of variants of "hardtack" or ship's biscuits. If you end up with some hardtack by accident just wrap it in a cheesecloth and hang it in a closet until you can get to a Renaissance fair. You can sell your botched biscuits as "Iron Rations" and make a fortune.

Depends upon what kind of biscuit you are trying to make!
As someone else said, the bicarb or baking powder just helps them to rise.

Not sure, but I think a compound in the baking soda does
something that is needed in baking (bisquits)... hope someone
has the knowledge for ya..!!!

I do fine using plain self-rising flour. Mine are always fluffy and yum-yum even without the soda and baking powder.
