It depends on how active you are and how much you currently weigh. Typically you should never consume less then 1000 a day but if you are very seditary then you could consume less. I dont think that you should go less then 800 and be safe.

Absolutely less than 1000 calories is not healthy and while you may feel good now, your body will soon go into starvation mode. This will bring low energy, bad sleeping and your food intake might become spasmodic.
Anything between 1000 - 1800 calories is fine, depending on your weight/weight loss goals, exercise and physical activity, height and general lifestyle. And when it comes to eating, obviously there are smart choices and not so smart choices. A balanced diet of carbs, protein, fats as well as vitamin supplement and other healthy choices such as fruit, vegetables, baked not fried, less oil, etc will certainly help you achieve your goals.
And ulitmately, you need to listen to your body and see what it really needs. More carbs/less protein will work for one person but someone else may need chicken three times a week and their carbs once a week. Some people need more fruit, some more red meat. Remember, there are plenty of healthy and tasty options available so really pay attention to what your body needs and while you may falter at times (we all do), you will be fine.
Enjoy!

Yeah, you feel fine, but if you eat under, really 1200 a day, your body goes into starvation mode. Its not good for you. Cause your lowering your metabolism. You won't be able to function normally like this and you might get sick, or just weak. Then you will have to go back to eating more. This will make you gain weight quickly bc your metabolism has been lowered by not eating.
And your definetly not getting the nutrients you need with that little calories. Its impossilble

Yes it is "bad" for you. Your brain needs so many calories a day, so does your entire system.. Just a base amount of calories, without you even moving around at all are burned every day. You feel fine now due to the fact that you have fat stores, and calorie stores in your body which are quickly being used up, but you are in fact in starvation with only that many calories being ingested. Please ask your doctor for a health plan set up correctly for you if you are interested in a diet. Perhaps a 1600 calorie a day diet would be sufficient, depending on your level of activity.

yes it is. what you are doing is basically starving yourself and your body will use you muscles for energy first and then feed off of your fat. You will slow down your metabolism and eventually become a soft, but light, high body fat % person. I have no idea what you are trying to accomplish by doing that but you are headed to a yo-yo diet. When you begin eating a normal amount of calories again you will become even bigger. It will result in being even harder for you to lose weight the next time around. Muscle is necessary for you to burn calories. The more you have the more you burn. You will lose muscle by doing this......Does this make sense to you? You are better off eating small portions of food about 5-6 times a day. Try cutting out sugar or at least minimizing it. Stay away from white food. eat whole grains and wheat. keep your portions sizes small and exercise and you will be a healthier lighter person......:)

Absolutely...even with the proper nutrients in your diet, 500 calories is not enough to supplement your bodies need for energy. Your body will begin by breaking down fat stores and glycogen stores, which will lead to general malaise and muscle fatigue. Next your body will break down muscle and other proteins (a process called deamination) in an effort to feed the brain and your breath will begin to smell of acetone (ketone bodies which are produced during deamination). No other systems in the body can use ketones as an energy source so your liver converts ketones to glucose in a process called gluconeogenesis. If continued over a long term, this can cause permanent liver damage due to filtration of the byproducts of this starvation.
Secondary to this is your bodies inability to produce the necessary neurotransmitters. You and your friends may notice a change in mood and an inability to focus as well as forgetfulness and a lowered ability to control muscle function.

Yeah that's bad for you. You aren't giving yourself enough energy and you may feel fine for a couple of days but it will catch up with you if you keep doing it. If you don't give yourself enough energy you will be more prone to diseases and stuff since your body won't have the normal energy it used to.

well it depends on how much extra weight you are carrying, if you want to just lose 20 pounds, oppose to 200 pounds you should be eating at least 1000/1200 a day
