What could happen to them if someone denounces them to the immigration department? This family is here working as temporary residents, hoping to apply for a green card sometime in the future. I think is infuriating that some people move to the US even expecting to become residents and they start out by breaking the US laws with the excuse that "back home we had servants". Shameless arrogance!

Please read the question: I'm not interested in anybody's personal or moral opinion, but for LEGAL advice from a qualified person (i.e. Immigration lawyer or at least someone who's familiar with this situation). Irrelevant , baseless chatter from stranger is of no value to me (or anybody else for that matter, I suspect). Thank you.

If these individuals are reported to USCIS or USICE, they would likely be placed into removal (deportation) proceedings. At that point, they would have to plead their cases to an immigration judge as to why they should not (or should) be removed from the U.S. Barring circumstances which you have not disclosed, there may not be any relief available to them and they could face a removal order unless they were to plead voluntary departure and then leave the U.S. on their own volition.

As far as liabilities to employers of illegals, generally it's nothing more than a "slap on the wrist" for a first time offender, especially the employer of an au pair. Repeat offenders, of course, could face more serious consequences. This is not to say that the Department of Homeland Security or the Department of Labor could not come down hard on the employer (first offense or not), but it is not that common. Employers who knowingly employ illegals can be subject to heavy monetary fines (I believe its up to $50,000 now) and even imprisonment.

I agree with you when it comes to illegal immigrants however if they have temporary residency is because they have a file with INS. Most probably this family has applied for some kind of asylum (political, religious) and their case is pending. They will continue to have a temporary green card until their case is resolved and believe me it takes years.
Although I do not agree with illegal immigration, I have to admit that I respect the people who come here in search for a better life. What I mean is that this family is to be admired because instead of hiding and working illegally...they went through the process of legalizing their stay here, which takes time and money. This family pays taxes and are under control, in terms that police and immigration know where they are at all times. Think about the fact that they risk not being accepted into this country and may be sent back once their case is resolved.
Thus, I agree that illegal immigration should stop but I admire people who go through the process of being naturalized even if they entered the country illegal.

I think you are quite arrogant in detailing who is enabled to answer your question.
Why should a "immigration law lawyer" give you advice for free??? Do your research, or pay a lawyer. I am being extra nice, here is the reference of some legal info about illegal immigrant employment.

Anyway, it doesn't look like your "friends" are risking much. They are being unfair to the girl, but at most they would get a fine.

If chatters from strangers is of no value to you, I suggest you find a better place to post stuff than on yahoo.

If you are paying an illegal for personal reasons and someone reports you, you are in pretty big trouble. Basically, the IRS is going to come after you for not paying taxes, SS, and other monies owed to the government.

You are breaking the law by employing illegal immigrants. People that I know that do such a thing are after cheap, slave labour.and should be taken to court themselves.

the basic legality of this issue trumps all other opinions
what your doing is wrong
and what they are doing is wrong
best solution would be to deport both of you

that would go a long ways towards solving the roblem
