basenji

None. I know a whole bunch of answerers are going to say "Basenji", but it's not true. They do not technically bark, but they make a different sound that is more of a yodel. It is even more high pitched and annoying than regular barking. Basenjis are one of the most needy and noisy breeds I know of.

If you need a dog that does not bark much, look into a retired racing Greyhound- they hardly bark at all, not because they "can't", but because they just aren't that noisy. Other than that, you can find a specific breed you like, and look for an individual dog within that breed that seems quiet. Dogs have individual personalities, just like people do.

Rhodesian Ridgebacks only bark when they want to alert you of something. They usually won't just bark because the neighborhood dogs are carrying on. They were bred to guard diamond mines, so if they barked for just anything, that would defeat the purpose. Our mixed breed Ridgeback hardly ever barked unless she saw a cat in the yard or heard something unusual. BTW, don't go for that operation where the vet removes the vocal chords. That is cruel and often will just leave the dog with a raspy sounding bark.

It's a little cute short haired dog with a very curly tail called the Basenji. It doesn't bark. Check them out by searching for "basenji" at www.akc.org

The basenji is called the "African Barkless Dog" because the breed cannot bark; instead, the dog makes a sort of chortling sound

I also have a ridgeback and he very rarely barks. Only when he is outside and wants in and its one bark and then another 3 or 4 minutes later. Dogs can be going crazy around him and nothing. Great dog.

By nature, Basenjis. But, I don't like barking and don't allow my dogs to bark just coz they want to. If I need them to 'listen' and let me know if something is 'out there', I give them a signal.
If I don't wanna know what's out there, I don't allow them yappin'. Being Pack Leader is great. The view is fine, also. Sami

um well husky's. they are very mellow and if a stranger comes in they will show it around the house. seriously they don't bark at all only if u don't excerise it for 3 hours everyday. but i have had many dogs and husky's and pomeraineans are the only ones that don't bark. except for those stupid chiuahhas or however u spell it.

This breed of dog that came from Africa. I think they're wild animals and can't be kept as a pet.
