Reduce consumption of natural resources and pracitces that are harming the planet (e.g. organic vs non-organic food).
Recycle, buy used, save energy and water where possible, eat organic, find substitutes for dairy and beef, don't buy products from countries where environmental regulation is lax, drive less in smaller vehicles, make sure toxic items like oil, batteries, electronics etc. are recycled properly, dont use speed (meth production is really bad for the environment as the toxic leftovers are generally buried or dumped).

Use clotheslines. That will save alot of electricity itself, and even more when you don't have to run the A/C to cool the house down.
Bicycle more. Every 2 mi trip saves at least .1 gal gas in an average car.
Collect and use "gray water" for plants.
Turn off unused lights. An easy thing to do that people skip on.
Set your thermostat at 75 deg F in summer and 67 deg F in winter. Dress appropriately and this is a minor discomfort at worst.
Don't drink soda pop. It takes energy to make and ship the stuff and it's not good for you.
Use re-useable cloth bags for shopping. Better than either paper OR plastic.
All easy things that can save money and help ecology.

Saving the ecology? As in, saving the branch of science of ecology? I didn't know it was in danger.
It's all about educating at a younger age. Teaching the hard sciences and mathematics to middle schoolers and high schoolers. Chemistry, biology, physics... Get the young minds interested with good lesson plans.

Avoid junk science like Al Gore's silly movie. He was the guy that scared us all into spending a BILLIONS of dollars on the "Y2K Bug". Now Chicken Al is screaming "The sky is Warming! The Sky is Warming" This movie has be debunked over and over again. Just type it into google to see some of the reviews. Your best bet is to teach a balanced program and avoid anything that is sold and billed as educational. Remember scientist need your funding in order to live so many have resorted to scare tactics to get it. Avoid this unethical nuts like the plague.

Unfortunately poor countries that border each other can barely feed themselves let alone smog devices for their factories and such....not to mention working out their differences ! On an individual level, recycling is a start ! Hawaii just started theirs after spending millions....merchants are usually against it because they don't make anything & increasing the employee work load ! Good luck on the debate.
