Though both were terrible, I would say slavery. The holocaust took place over a relatively short period of time, slavery occurred over hundreds of years. The Jews only had to die once whereas the slaves died every day of their lives and knew that their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren would have to live the same life.

The holocaust doesn't even compare to the Rwandan genocide where 900,000 died in 100 days.

Sorry, but the Jews can't get this one.

Additional note: I think the numbers of dead range between 1 and 7 million dead for the holocaust. 7 is a gross exaggeration and the Nazi records place the numbers at around 100,000. The holocaust was looked at by the world and the world tried to stop it. The Rwandan genocide was looked at by the world and the world tried to ignore it. Even after the dead bodies of Tutsis started washing down river into other countries it was ignored. Worse still while it could have been prevented by a simple U.N. presence the U.N. pulled out and took all the White missionaries with them as the Hutus waited in the bushes like lions waiting to strike. I don't know about the rest of the people in the world but I would take a gas chamber or firing squad and being tossed in a hole over being hacked to death with a machete washing down river into a neighboring country and forgotten.

Without a doubt, the Holocaust is worse. I don't think enslaving people can even be comapared to mass genocide.
Not that it was our finest moment but the picture that is painted by not only our biased media but by authors is overstating the worst. Many slaves were treated humanely and alot of times were treated as family. If you don't believe me, do some research... in older books. The picture of slavery has been painted so bleak that you would even consider the idea that these 2 occurances could be compared.

There's no real way of answering this without appearing either non-thinking, racist, or anti-semetic.

There's also questions like "which slavery?" It can be assumed that you were referring to the slavery of Africans in the early days of America. But slavery has spanned many people, in many countries. The Irish were actually slaves along side the Africans for a while in early America as well, but they got called "indentured servants".

The Holocaust was a genocide attempt. 6,000,000 Jews, and millions of homosexuals, and millions of "non-master race" people were killed.

The thing about slavery is, that the Africans that were bought and shipped to America, even if they weren't slaves in America, would have spent their lives as slaves in Africa... as they were sold to Americans by the Slave owners in Africa. Chances are, the ones that were sold to Americans were the "lucky" ones. Not to mention when Slavery was abolished, and through the years of civil rights movements, it has lead to a good life for their decendants today. Whereas had they never come to America, their decendants could very well still be slaves, or living free in a third world country.

The holocaust, on the other hand, had no real positive outcome. Free jews/homosexuals/non-master race folks, were imprisoned and starved and became test subjects for mad scientists. They were slaves under the "Arbeit Macht Frei" (with work comes freedom) signs, but these slave owners didn't care if thier slaves starved to death, or became diseased, their slaves were free and were coming in by the cattle truck load. Not to mention, it was their intention all along to kill them.

Holocaust survivors went back to the life they had, more likely than not, minus most of their loved ones, with nothing gained by their experience, no hopes of passing anything positive down in their bloodlines, just a faded tattoo of serial numbers.

Granted the Holocaust didn't last nearly as long though.

So it's up to you, to make your own judgement.

Holocaust. Slavery is deplorable (and still goes on today), but holocaust is much worse. Here is an example. In Sudan, Muslims regulatily raid Christian villages and slaughter or enslave the people. The people tend to prefer being taken as slaves over dying, because if you are a slave, at least you are still alive and you can try to escape. If you are dead, that's it.

Both are equally bad, the Holocost merely put into a short time span what slavery spread out over centuries.

It is all about small minds thinking they are better than others because of something they didn't have anything to do with. Skin color, religion of birth, etc

holocaust,if any had ever seen any of the graphic pictures of some of the killings, but to be put in a prison camp to be executed and waiting for the moment,or the terrible death of the gas truck,
although slavery was no cake walk, but it was not trying to wipe out a whole race,

Slavery because it involved more people. Millions died on the boat ride and the ones that survived probably wished they were dead. Can you imagine what it would feel like to be controlled? To be dehumanized and made to feel like you were beneath another human being. To have your wives/husbands, and children taken away from you. To not know where you own grandmother was! Can you imagine how the men must've felt? They were incapable of protecting their own families! (and they wonder what is wrong with black men today!!)

Slavery was terrible and no one ever deserved to be a slave, but the Holocaust was levels above that. It was the systematic murdering of a people. There's no comparison.
