I was spanked and chewed out.

The folks would sit down with me & we'd discuss what I did. Then once I understood what I did wrong they spanked me with a 2 x 4. They also used rewards & grounding as well. They didn't need to do too much punishing, though, since one learns rather quickly that mommy & daddy mean what they say when that technique is used.

It was simple. The worse the crime the worse the punishment. Simple things were just warnings and stern talks and the really stupid things I did were followed by spankings. As I got older and getting my butt beat didn't work it was groundings. (I couldn't go anywhere, no tv, no phone. It was to school and home and most of the time was spent in my room or doing chores for my parents.

Several methods, depending on the transgression and my parents' mood...
Spanking...my father used his hand, my mom a thin, wooden, yardstick...both spanked our bare butts until they stung, but never left a mark nor hit other parts of our body...
Restriction...generally 2 wks of staying in our room (when not in school), no friends over, no telephone calls, no other 'fun' things, but we were left with our toys (there were no computers then, and few kids had a tv in their room)...
Mouth washed out with soap...this occured if we said "ugly" words (cursed) or got sassy..we had to hold the bar of soap (usually Zest...blech!) in our mouth for a number of seconds, and swirl the soapy spit around in our mouth (trying not to swallow)

I got spankings and grounded alot of things were taken away like phone, my walkman, and I couldn't have friends over my mom was strict!

I was never punished.Me and my parents resolved the problems first with a little argue and then with a conversation.

i was never punished. if i did something wrong, my parents explained to me what i did. and i never did that again.
