I am going to Ireland for a vacation, and would appreciate any tips, what not to do, etc. We will be staying in a guest house the first few nights, should I bring a gift for our hosts? If so, what?

The culture of Ireland would be largely consistent with that of other Anglo-Celtic countries around the world. You might want to buy a guidebook for more detailed advice. Culture Shock Ireland: a Survival Guide to Customs and Etiquette would be a good choice.

It is considered very good form to bring a gift for the hostess so that will definitely be appreciated.

It's good etiqette to take a small gift, maybe a book or something. i spent time in Ireland as an exchange student and I had the best time of my life. Irish people are really cool. they are friendly and outgoing. Be careful about pic-pocketers EXPECIALLY children. It's them damn kids that will really get you good. Have a great time.
