some common ground to at least close some of the gap between believer and non-believer so that we may better get along with one another?
I try to show respect to all those who give me the same and yes I do fall short at times but I am trying to be better about it. So what as a people can we do? I don't mean to have anybody convert to one religion or another but we should at least be able to get along.

You are so right with this. A little respect would be good, the idea on both sides that its okay to share views, and opinions without being called names would be helpful, and the obvious point that we are all free to believe what we choose, that would help so much.

I'm atheist and I my best friend is hardcore catholic, we can talk about religion (or lack of) without problems.

I get along very well with people from other beliefs (with the notable exception of the very few muslims I've met), half my friends belong to some religion. There are always some fundies around that can't accept me just for my lack of belief, I worked with one and it was a pain down there, but everything is fine apart from that. Some people just can't understand and/or accept that other people do not believe in god(s).

We should always get along with everyone, a good christian does not hate and loves, God is the only judge, and we are all non-believers in the beginning until we know Christ, so how can we turn our back on someone that hasn't found God yet.
So essentially what I am saying, if people would look past other things they would still find a friend.

Excellent question. Jesus' life taught that the common ground is 'compassion'. I think it takes listening to the "heart" that's behind the words that helps to develop that compassion.
Without compassion - we're never gonna get along.

Just pick some Sumerian Books and you'll find out that the believers are telling you tales from other cultures.

What you're asking for is (no offense) a pipe dream. If it won't happen in real life, it certainly won't happen here.

Sorry to be the bearer of ill news.
