The word is hedonistic, and I think it's pretty much always negative because it refers to a lifestyle that's selfish and pleasure-seeking. These qualities aren't usually valued in American culture.
Nevertheless, I can actually think of one example I know where this word is used in a "positive" way. It's a Calvin and Hobbes cartoon, where Calvin's dad has just come in from a jog on a winter day. He says something along the lines of, "Ah, what a great morning! Up at 5:30 for a run in the sleet, and then I come home to a huge bowl of plain oatmeal. I love the hedonistic lifestyle of weekends!"
This cartoon is making fun of Calvin's dad because most people wouldn't enjoy running in the snow early in the morning or eating plain oatmeal. The use of hedonistic, then, shows just how ironic this is.
