Years ago a "friend" of mine dumped a stray cat on me even though I said I didn't want it. I have been taking care of it for years. I recently asked my "friend" to take it back and he said no.

This cat 1) scratches my furniture 2) scratches my carpet 3) demands too much attention and literally bugs me 4) makes the place dirty 5) makes it impossible for me to have guests since it bugs my guests and is not well mannered.

In short, the cat makes me miserable. (I am also slightly alergic to it)

What's the easiest way to get rid of it? I don't want to do something mean like abandon it, but I also don't want to put up ads trying to find a loving home. I mean, that pisses me off. Why do I have to do go through that kind of a hassle when this cat was dumped on me to begin with? Putting up ads will take forever too since everyone wants a new kitty, not a former stray cat.

So please suggest an easy, quick way to get rid of it.

Take the poor kitty to your local humane society or animal shelter. They will take it and hopefully find a better home for him.

The poor kitty! I can relate in a way, because I had the nastiest cat on the planet living with me for almost 14 years. She became ill and passed away last summer.

I now have two cats that are actually nice and affectionate. We adopted them from our local animal shelter. If you are really serious about it, I would urge you to consider your local shelter. Just be aware that if it is not a no-kill shelter, there's a chance your cat may be euthanized. If it is a no-kill shelter, they may not take your cat at all.

Do you take your cat to the vet? Are its shots up-to-date? Maybe it's ill. You could consider having it declawed, which would solve your scratching problem. As for the rest, I keep the litter in the basement, and if I'm having guests over that aren't cat fans, I put them there, as well. Cleaning... well, I just clean up after them :)

Make your decision seriously, though.

if i could i would love to adopt it but other people want animals too. are u absolutely sure you can't put up with it and no other relative will take it? try posting it online i'm sorry that it will be a hassel but its also a good deed and good deeds make a better person. running ads are the easiest and quickest ways. you can also place signs at vet offices. don't dump it to the humane society its not fair. what if you were dumped there? please be good to it.

First, you could have said "no" when that "friend" dumped his cat on you.

Second, why haven't you been looking for someone to take the cat for all these years that you have been caring for it?

Third, try to give it away to someone who will treat it decently - and do not bring it to a place where they "put animals down."

Remember, many people get field mice - some would love to have a cat to keep them away (or eat them if they still come in).

Take it to your local shelter. Simple easy and it has a chance at a new home. Check your phone listings. Also see if you have a local P.A.W.S. chapter in your area. they assist in finding pets a new home without the fear of the animal being euthanized after a certain period of time.

Contact your local animal shelter and make sure they don't euthenize the animals if they've been there too long. Most cities have a few "free to live" organizations that take unwanted pets and house them until someone comes to adopt them.

Take it to a shelter or humane society that takes cats in. Sometimes you need an appointment, so be sure to check with the place before you bring her/him in.

call your local SPCA.. they may ask you for moneyto takehim, if you cant handle this, you can leave him in a box (with holes in it for air!) on the front steps of the SPCA early in the morning. You should have done this years ago if you were so against having a pet. He has bad manners etc, because he was never trained to be a loving animal.
