I have always worn gold. Usually it is 10k just for strength. I stopped wearing my wedding ring (solitaire, wrap, and anniversary band) which is made from 10k yellow gold. I wear gold in my ears, but only in my upper lobe. My lower lobe piercing doesn't like any kind of metal in it for long- it starts to itch. Anyway, I wore my wedding ring the other night for about 5 hours and got a welt around my finger and it was very red and itchy. It seems everytime I try to wear my ring, it does this. Could I be allergic to it after all these years? What can I do if I am allergic to it? Any suggestions? Thanks!

Most likely you are allegic to the nickel in the rings because you are not wearing pure gold. What my family does like on rings is put some clear fingernail polish on the inside of the ring. It usually helps. Makes sure you apply it often as it will wear off. As far as your ears, I just have to make sure that I wear a higher gold content earring although my aunt puts the clear nailpolish on the posts and it works for her.

I have that happen once in a while and I'm not allergic. It's usually because of the heat and sweat. What I do is take it off for a few hours, clean the ring and wash my hands real well. When it stops itching, I put the ring back on.

I remember reading some place that when a person is allergic to gold it's usually an allergy to nickel (which is how they bring gold down from 24K to 10K). If that is the case, you can only wear 24 K gold.

You are probably not allergic to gold. you are probably allergic to the other metals in your wedding band. Since your wedding band is 10K there are more other metals than gold inside. See if there is something like nickel inside. That is what you are probably allergic to.
