I don't know where you live, but if there is a "Michael's Craft and Floral" in your town, they carry the 'Wilton' brand baking & decorating suppies for cakes and such. 'Wilton' makes black food coloring.
If you don't have a Michael's, then call your local craft stores to see if they carry 'Wilton' brands.
Good luck

Personally, black color is not a nice tasting icing, so to offset that taste, I suggest you use chocolate icing. You will still need to use the black tint but not so much of it. or use a white frosting and tint it black with paste food colors. You can usually find the black paste food colors in the crafts dept of Wal-Mart. The company that puts out a good one is Wilton. Use powdered food coloring in addition to the paste food coloring. The powdered makes a richer color without adding the bitter taste. You can purchase the powdered food coloring at most cake, cookie, or candy making supply stores. Hope this helps. Good Luck

Start with a very dark canned chocolate frosting, then add a bit of blue food coloring. Stir it in until it looks right. It'll be very close to black.
There is also black gel frosting for decorating, but it comes in really tiny tubes and is somewhat sheer.

black coloring that can be added to white frosting can be found in specialty shops that sell chocolate that you make candy with, cake molds, etc. also in the larger department stores in their kitchen goods section. I have bought it, comes in liquid or a tube. i have made a cake with checkered racing flags on it. black and white.

Michael's and Wal mart carry a black food coloring paste that will work just fine. If you don't have these stores in your area any store that carries the Wilton line of products will have it.
