Sacrifices were for atonement of sin in the Old Testament. Jesus had to be the perfect sacrifice for our sins. You should never second-guess God's methods or purposes.

Back in that day, crucifixion was a humane way to die. Back then there was no such thing as a lethal injection or a firing squad to carry out death sentences. It beats being stretched to death on the rack or being hit with rocks (stoned).

I doubt seriously that God's perfect plan was for Jesus to be convicted of crimes he didn't commit and killed so brutally. I would guess he should have been taken to the temple by the people he was dying for where they would have a very somber ceremony before his earthly life simply ended.

He had to fulfill the old testament prophesies about what the "Savior" would do & undergo when He came. His horrible torture & "death" unfolded as predicted.
How else would we know that Jesus was "the one" who had come to redeem mankind?
Jesus could have pricked his finger to shed his blood for us but that wouldn't have had the impact or fulfilled the prophesies.
This humiliating death shows that Jesus was willing to do anything for us, even enduring the most painful torture to demonstrate his love for us.
