i got my 7 week old kitten 3 days ago and i dont know how to get him to stop crying. when i pick him up, he stops but if i move or sit him down, he starts screaming. nothing seems to work to get him to stop except for wrapping a towel around him and putting him in a box. but even that doesnt work for long.
another problem i have with him is, how do i get him and my 8 month old male cat to be friends? the older one just hisses at him if he comes near.

The 8 month old MALE cat has had it's territory cut in half, not a happy cat..... but it will get used the the other in time, hopefully.

I say "hopefully" because cats are like people, we like some people, we tolerate others, and ignore the ones we don't like and we attack people we hate.... from an "animal perspective" anyway.

For the 7 week old MALE kitten, again, it takes time. It has moved into a whole new situation and away from MOMMY!!!! It's screaming for its Mother!

You are "Mom" now..... the independence will eventually kick in.

Just don't try to PUSH the two together! If you were in their shoes, (paws actually) and you were little and in a different place where there's a bigger kid just around the corner, well, you'd be somewhat scared and leary too of your own safety if you got hissed at.... as opposed to being nurtured by Mother.

With two MALES..... territory is the key word..... you will find that they will both stake out their own territory and defend it.

Get them both fixed..... SOON..... your place will stink when they mature, spraying their "ode du male pussie-cat" in search for a female.

If you get then de-nutted..... the cat testosterone will not kick in as bad, they won't spray and they may become friends rather than rivals for your attention.

Best of Luck Mom! Welcome to the wolrd of pussiecat parenting.

The new kitten just misses his momma: He'll calm down eventually. Have you tried putting a ticking clock or some other small noisemaker in the box with your new kitten?

As for the trouble with your older cat, you can expect a little hissing until he feels secure in his position as 'top cat'. There's usually a little spatting as cats establish their hierarchy. There's no need to interfere unless the older cat becomes a danger to the youngster. Try to give your older cat some extra attention so he won't feel he's been abandoned.

Good luck!

Just hang in there a while longer. They will be friends, but it will be a while until they solve territorial disputes and establish their pecking order. Another person who answered is right about the kitten being too young to be weaned. Kittens should be with their litter mates until at least eight weeks old. Good luck. I am sure it will work out in time.

gofor three and get another lil guy to keep him company>? naaa, but after a month or two they will start to get along and play, he is just really small right now so keep him close to you so he feels safe from his big brother bully. in a few weeks he will have the strength and SPEED to defend himself or hide. Your Bigger cat is probably jealous about all this by now too, so dont forget to go in a room where baby kitten isnt at and pour on the affection. They will eventually play like wild animals and tear the house apaprt and you will wish they hated eachother again :) good luck!

He's cold and lonely. 7 weeks is awfully young to be away from mom. I don't let mine go till their 10-12 weeks old. A heated rock or brick in his box can help, just don't burn the poor baby. And the ticking clock is a good one to. Just remember he's been with many others since conception so coddle him for a little bit and it will stop after a while.

7 weeks is tooo early to be removed from the mother. It probably isn't fully weaned. It is also used to sleeping with his brothers and sisters it may be cold also it misses the comfort of the mothers fur and the heat from her body. the other cat will adapt in about a week or so.

He's probably just missing his mom - give him a little while and he should calm down. Your older cat just has to get used to "sharing" you with the kitten. Be patient, they will come around.
