Well, it's forbidden in Islam because it's forbidden in the Pentateuch (the first five books of the Old Testament). Mohammed just took over a lot of rules from there, including, for instance, the one about cifrcumcising males.

But the reason it's forbidden in the Pentateuch is that it was forbidden in Egypt, where the Israelites learned it, and the reason it was forbidden in Egypt is that the Egyptians learned the hard way that pigs that are allowed to forage and eat anything they found are very likely to pick up trichinosis, a dangerous parasitic disease. Even in more sanitary modern pig farming, there's a chance that pigs will carry trichinosis -- that's why we are told to be sure to cook all pork products uintil they are well done.

Pigs in the past - during & before ISLAM ERA - were very unclean creatures - in terms of the what they ate & they way lived.

Back then there was no way to clean it... it had diseases and stuff.

It's like telling your child not to stick crap in there mouth because it's not healthy.
