i find it fascinating how deeply black christians practice their faith and believing that christianity is their passage to heaven.

is it not ironic that the same bible that was used to promote and validate slavery is embraced by the very people who were enslaved?

do you think that maybe christianity was forced upon blacks as a way to control them and make them even more submissive? i'm just curious to know how it is that black slaves were able to turn their backs on their african religions so quickly.

(i'm black and practice no particular religion. i ask this question not out of ignorance but just out of curiousity and to generate some honest opinions)

Religion, any religion teaches you how to live, and live with set rules so that you don't transgress others so that they transgress you. If the blacks in the US prefer Christianity today, that's their prerogative, I don't think it's being forced on them.

Most real christians were abolitionists and were against slavery. There were southren christians who beleieved that Africans were the Sons of Canaan and thus were bound in servitude to Shem. But if they had any intelligence they'd see that the Sons of Shem were the Jews. Pretty much all Europeans are the sons of Japeth.

In true Christianity all men are equal and thats how it should be. I feel that the slave christians were praticing a more real christian faith than their slave masters.

I don't understand though the african-americans who have converted to Islam. It was the muslims who caught the africans and sold them into slavery to the various countries when the practice began.

You DO ask this question out of ignorance, because ignorance simply means not knowing. You clearly do not know God, or you wouldn't equate Him with slave "owners." Slave "owners," some of whom were Christians, were undeniably wrong to engage in slavery, but it's a very l-o-n-g stretch from there to say that Christianity itself is wrong. Slave "owners" also ate food and drank water, so would you conclude that black people should not eat food or drink water? If you propose that blacks should distance themselves from God because their ancestors were enslaved, then you are doing them, and yourself, a very great disservice.
May I suggest that you earnestly pray to God to lead you to the truth about Himself? If you do that--and it may be difficult, because it means putting away all your prejudices and imaginary grudges--I am certain that He will reveal Himself to you, as far as you are truly willing to respond to Him.

God is God no matter who believes in him/her. The way people choose to follow particular patterns is a sociological phenom that is inherent in most religions. It is not isolated to "blacks". Why are Latin-Americans Catholic? They were Conquered (obliterated) by the Spaniards under the guise of saving their immortal souls, and so on. This has happened with many if not most cultures.
Religion in its human form of organized "churches" are a means of control/power. How that control is viewed by the patrons differs depending on their own relationship to their "church" and how that control/power affects them.

I believe you. in truth, i ought to bypass extra: why do such multiple Christians insist that our faiths are similar even as ideologically, they're poles aside? Christianity began as a dissident Jewish sect. yet as this faith spread by potential of the Roman empire, and extremely once Jesus became deified, then at that aspect, the religions cut up aside perpetually. For us as Jews, G-d is G-d and guy is guy - they by no potential 'merge'. The mere theory that G-d ought to take human sort is BLASPHEMY. Jews trust that each and each and all of us human beings are the children of G-d. Christianity has developed a very distinct perception device. It has taken the Jewish scriptures, MIStranslated them, REinterpreted them and also the theory of messiah, and now insists that we as Jews 'neglected' or were too 'obdurate' to understand our personal messiah! discuss conceitedness! Why do not extra Christians settle for that the very idea of 'messiah' is a JEWISH one. The JEWISH messianic prophecies were written by employing JEWS, for JEWS. We as Jews use wisely translated Hebrew. in short, we understand OUR scriptures. yet no. Many Christians take care of that Judaism is 'irrelevant'. attractive. The Jewish and Christian G-d isn't the same G-d. How can that's, even as Christians trust contained in the trinity? even as they trust that G-d became made flesh in Jesus? And to those those who keep cheerfully stating that Jews regard Jesus as a prophet - no, we do not. We by no potential did. We by no potential will. CATALIZ - yet you've purely lengthy gone and neglected the considered necessary aspect! In Judaism there is not any such theory because the 'suffering' messiah! it extremely is a CHRISTIAN theory. CATALIZ back***********************************... You completely skipped over what I suggested. The Jewish theory of messiah does no longer comprise ANY 'suffering' messiah. you're employing a MIStranslation of the Torah. Kindly do not tell ME as a Jew what my faith would not 'understand' about OUR personal SCRIPTURES.

Well what religion did blacks practice before Christianity?....I don't
think it was forced upon blacks to control them......I mean look @ what we learned in the bible...it teaches us til this day on how do live a holy life and how to depend on God......yes more than blacks were turned over into slavery....even Gods chosen people were also turned over into slavery....and I believe God allowed it to happened because we started our own twisted religion that didn't have anything to do with him......and that's because he loved us so much....we went into bondage to get us back on the right track!!!!!

God existed before the slave owners did.

Also, Jesus died for all and all who accept Him and are willing to be changed into his likeness will have the opportunity to do, salvation is free.

What, I should go to hell with the slave owners because they believe in God? They can believe in God all they want but remember this: if they do not follow him then they will go to hell.

James 2 - Faith without works is dead!

If you are faithful your works and deeds will show it.

your avatar doesn't really look black, more hispanic. but, yes I've often wondered about why they don't all throw down their bibles and join up with atheists. It makes even less sense for them to love such a racist god as described in the bible.

Christinsanity was adopted for that purpose. Look at the reason it was spread in the first place.
