of course! she just has to love the sport and give her all. i mean i guess it might be hard in certain areas but even if she doesnt make the school team try for a local club team or even just a clinic. there are many places that have week long clinics that teach you everything you need to know including the rules, serving, passing, digging, everything. but she has to do it cuz she wants to, not cuz people are pressuring her to. because its only fun if its in her heart. and she'll only get good if she's having fun with it.

No it is not to late for an 11 year old girl to start playing volleyball when I first started out I was 10. But she might need to practice alot and look for camps she can go to and make sure she plays a few years of club ball. And by the time she gets to high school and playing when it really counts she should have a good chance to play on another level.

Something to keep in mind is that at 11 kids can be plus or minus 3 years in development. That means that an 11 year old can be as developed as a much as 14 year old or as low as an 8 year old. That is why so many of the dominate players in youth leagues drop back to average or are even passed as they progress through school.
Also, from a cognitive standpoint, it is at about 12 that the average player really begins to understand the sport and all of its nuances.
All of that to say, by all means have her tryout. Make sure she approaches it with the right attitude and a desire to have fun and it will be a positive experience no matter what the results are. Make sure she knows if she does not make the team, she will still have your love and support. If she does not make it, reassure her that there is always next year. I have know several girls that did not make their 7th grade team who went on to make their 8th grade team.
To prepare she should practice, but make sure she practices the skills correctly. I would almost rather have a player that has never touched a ball than one who has developed bad habits.
Best of luck to her.

Not at all. Volleyball takes a lot of hand eye coordination and stamina which comes with age. This is a perfect age to start. I began in 7th grade, never even touched a volleyball. And I went on to play in circuit teams all over from Texas to California. If she has the desire and of course the natural ability she will do more than fine. And of course in the lower grades and younger ages the coaches "should" be looking for the ability to improve not necessarily and all-star at this stage.

Definately. Volleyball is an extremely easy sport to learn. I made the JV team at my high school my Freshman year and had never played volleyball in my life. It was the boys team so it wasnt quite as hard as making a girls team but still, with enough hard work she could easily make a team.

I started out in 6th grade. Not late at all. I won MVP 3 times...it's not late. All she needs to do is focus and be determined. She can't just want it and not do anything. It's really fun and helps build your self-confidence. She should go for it. She should practice a lot and if she makes it on the team...she should listen to everything the coach tells her to do. It will make all the difference in the world.

I started volleyball in 7th grade and I am now a varsity level player in high school.
It all depends on natural ability and the persons dedication and willingness to improve and put forth all of their efffort into the sport.
It is definetly possible for a 6th grader to play volleyball for the first time and succeed if they work hard and enjoy what they are doing!!

No, it's never too late to start v-ball no matter what age you are. Personally when I first got into v-ball it was in my 7th grade yr. During that time whenever i served it never made it over the net becuase I wasn't use to the long court. Before I played on short courts. But my coach kept telling me to just keep practicing and soon my serves will make it over. So when I got home I kept practicing with my underhand serves. You know what before I knew it I was able to serve where the ball finally made it over the net. My team and I was shock and happy that I made my first serve over the net in one of our games. Everybody was so proud of me. You know what I'm soon going to be in high school and I really want to join there v-ball team, but there looking for people who can serve overhand. So now I've been practicing with my overhand serve. I'm praying that soon I will be able to serve overhand as well as underhand so I can make the team. All she has to do is keep practicing with the different techniques of v-ball and have faith in herself that she can make the team.

That's definitely possible. That's the age and grade I started in and am now playing in highschool as a starter. A friend of mine who is 6'2" had neevr played volleyball in her life started in 9th grade of highschool and ended up as one of the best players in the state (with the help of her height of course) but anything's possible, give it a try. =)
