It's not the greatest photograph, but this is a quick study on mood and symbolism. How does this make you feel? What does it bring to mind? Thank you. http://i1.tinypic.com/1zq4h21.jpg

I like it. It makes me feel like learning. I think that it would be perfect without the vase and other stuff in the back. Just the bust and books against the wall would be great.

I don't agree with the answer before mine. I like the neutral colors in your picture. It's easy on the eyes. I didn't get the impression that you were trying to take a "look at me!' picture more of a "stop and think" picture.

Good picture. Thanks for sharing.

It makes me cringe. There are tangents all over the place, the lighting is unimaginative (straight ahead of the bust), size relationship makes the books look as big as furniture.

You might want to study still life from masters and semantics for your symbols because there’s nothing really clear here. Objects in symbolism are like words to a sentence. Right now, there’s just not enough information in your set up. The colour temperature seems to be okay for an old world type of feel.

Good luck !

what am i supposed to think? some books and a statue of 'Bucky" from american idol?
ooooo awesome
here's a thought there's no motion in it at all. anybody can set up and take a picture (and those usually turn out like crap). you need
1. more vibrant colors [go outside dammit!]
2. a better focus [one big focal point or just make the whole picture the focus]
3. motion [you'll find it if you go outside]

It makes me feel like I'm in the presence of someone in the art scene, classical music scene. Altho the books are more symbolic of an intellect than an artist.

Actually, the vase that is behind the bust is a little distracting. I'm trying to figure out if they're aloe leaves or palm leaves or what. Also the exposure is a little dark, so that's a little distracting as well.

I'm really not getting anything out of it. There is no mood created by the presence of the books with the bust.

It looks unfinished like the main subject has been cropped.I'd add some more to the still life.So far it symbolizes music and intellect to me.

I like the bust. It reminds me of stories of ancient greece.

Together with the books, they seem to be kinda like a window into the past.

It brings to mind Rome...Ceasar, and it makes me think of those times, when Philosophy was huge, and all the great thinkers of our time/the world (personal opinion) were living.

It brings to mind a quiet, peaceful environment - one where someone is on a quest for knowledge.
