because they are trying to deal with the other half that aren't! LOL! =)
my personal opinion is that way too many drugs are being prescribed and then the drs are not making sure that the patient is getting the correct help. i had depression for a number of years and was put on different kinds of meds over the years and until i changed drs, ( the one dr told me i would be on them for the rest of my life) he just kept me on them, then i met a dr from india who told me i may not need the meds and he worked with me for two years, then he started easing me off and now i have been without for over a year. however about 10 months ago, i quit seeing the dr.
so i would venture to say that most drs don't want to lose their patients, and never figure out which ones only need the meds for a short time.
again, just my opinion from my experience,
lily

Its a shame because 95% of those people probably dont even need it. And the side effects on those pills are enough to keep me away from them! People need to get off their lazy butt and make themselves happy. I know there are some cases where it is necessary but people are WAY over prescribed. I would not put that crap in my body unless it was do or die.

I didn't know I was depressed until I went to the doctor b/c I was having headaches. After blood tests didn't turn up anything, he diagnosed depression. We trust our doctors and expect that they will do what's best for us. If they say go on anti-depressants, that's what we do.

It's easier than them trying to fix whatever is making them depressed. People seem to want convenience.
I for one, prefer to fix what got me there in the first place.

B/C we suck as a society. Instead of trying to deal with our problems, we turn to drugs or other substances. Instead of trying to deal as a society, we for the fast-food culture's solution.
It makes you depressed just thinking about it.
