Hi,

I'm learning English right now.
I've come across the following sentences.

"The lamas (salvation seekers) begin a spiritual journey.
They must purify themselves(symbolized by the circle of fire). "

And somebody rephrased them like this

"Cleanup operation is the first phase of a spiritual journey."

When you describe purification of the spirit in religious way
do you use 'cleanup operation'?
It sounds awkard to me.
Since I'm not a native English speaker, I can't tell the difference of subtle nuances.

Please help me.

Your English is better than most people on this site. You are doing great.

In my opinion (sometimes written as IMO on these sites), calling a purification a "cleanup operation" is condescending and rude.

I have never heard the term, 'cleanup operation' used though I guess in a way it would fit. We use the terms : purification, sanctification, cleansing.
But I disagree with the statement also- sanctification, cleansing, purification, etc. is an ongoing process on the journey. one cannot clean themselves up before salvation, otherwise salvation would not be necessary- Sanctification comes as a result of salvation therough Christ Jesus.

do you need a synonym for purification? Because Purification is the best word in a religious context. "cleanup operation" sounds janitorial.

I've never heard it phrased that way. Usually a 'cleanup operation' refers to the action taken after a major oil spill or after another one of George Bush's flawed policies.

I don't know, mate. I am a Aussie so the bloody Americans language confuses me too sometimes. It doesn't sound like clean up operation belongs in a paragraph about religion.

you ought to prefer to run your anti-virus and verify for secret agent and spyware. I had a similar difficulty very last 12 months in october and november. To make concerns worse, my operating equipment does no longer load and were given the scary blue demonstrate. It grew to grow to be out I had a trojan hidden in my equipment that my McAffee Viruscan did not %. up. I had to apply Spybot and the Yahoo Anti-secret agent. If that would not fix the challenge I propose you contact the producer (like Dell), and they could troubleshoot the challenge for you.

hmmm
the "native" english language is rather lenient so i would say go for it as long as the idea is understood
we have many slangs and out-of-context words
this literally doesn't translate correctly

what it means is that when we repent of our sins
(ask Jesus to forgive us of our past sins) and
take him as our savior we become clean of our sins
our sins are washed away & we are now white as the snow
Hope this helped
