Genealogy was important to the Hebrews to prove that they are among the chosen people. It was more important to show the right to hold the priesthood. Since Christ came those ideas are not important at all. all are equal in the site of God through Jesus. So no need to worry about endless genealogies.. It's still nice to find out about your family though isn't it?

Read 1 Timothy 1:3-11 in context, than you will understand why Paul said what he said regarding to false teachings, myths, endless genealogies.
The reason why Paul (through the wisdom of God) says that people should not devote themselves to myths, endless genealogies, and false teachings is because such things only promote controversial speculations rather than advancing God’s work which is by faith according to verse 1 Timothy 1:4.
The goal that God has us to obey is the commands (Romans 13:9-10 The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.) which is love that comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. Some have departed from these and have turned to meaningless talk (which doesn't produce good fruit a.k.a. righteousness/good deeds). They want to be teachers of the law, but they do not know what they are talking about or what they so confidently affirm according to verse 1 Timothy 1:5-7.
According to verse 1 Timothy 1:8-11, Paul says, "We know that the law is good if one uses it properly. We also know that the law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, for the sexually immoral, for those practicing homosexuality, for slave traders and liars and perjurers—and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine that conforms to the gospel concerning the glory of the blessed God, which he entrusted to me."
There are other verses that can be cross referenced to verse 1 Timothy 1:3-11 such as verse Titus 3:1-11 which is about "Timothy Charged to Oppose False Teachers" and 2 Timothy 2:14-26 which is about "Saved in Order to Do Good."
IF PEOPLE READ THE WHOLE ENTIRE VERSES IN CONTEXT, THEN THEY WOULDN'T BE CONFUSED AND WON'T HAVE TO ASK QUESTIONS ABOUT IT.

I'm not sure... but the best one is the 2 different genealogies given for Jesus... different in many ways and both of them ending with Joseph. Yet Joseph isn't the father... ^_^

Paul was warning them against a variety of contentions, including being contentious over who was of a better descent. It would not be very nice to brag about being descendents of the prophets to a gentile convert to the early Christian church. So while there is nothing wrong with geneology in and of itself, and in fact is probably a good thing, bragging about or being contentious about who is better because they're a descendent of so and so is wrong.

Good question.
It was listed before to show the lineage of Jesus. That was the purpose of it.
If you notice too that it stopped right after Jesus. Hope you understand.
