From the last one I recall (I'm talking years and years and years ago.....) There was a book which had all the laws and information you need to study up on (now everything is in the computer) Each section was discussed, and the instructor would show us film. Today the films seem to center on the accidents based on drunk drivers - and teens. At the end of each section -you'd be tested (today, you test from the computer). THere are opportunities for lots of questions, but they really point you to the book/computer for assistance. Once you have completed the basic classroom course, you get behind the wheel and get on the road., two, four and then freeway. After you have successfully proven to the instructor that you have control of t he road - you take the drivers test. Most DMV (Department of Motor Vehicle) will have a drivers course set up like the road for you to test on - or they may take you back on the road and have you perform certain things - turning left, parallel parking, etc. If you pass - you get your drivers license and you're legal to drive on the road.

They usually talk for a while, watch a few videos and have a short EASY quiz at the end. I have been twice over the years. It is a good course that teaches alot of good information.

It's mostly useless...about caution and a little scolding about the dangers of driving carelessly...there was a little test and certificate I think, but nothing crazy...not that I've been ; )

Review of rules and regulations, accident scenarios, and discussion. Yes, there is a written quiz at the end.
