I was wondering if it is proven that when you hear something you remember it longer than you see something. Or if the opposite was true.

I figured because people can remember songs from when they were children and still remember the lyrics even if they haven't heard them in 15 or more years. Although in the same case they could still remember what the band looked like or the tv show. Just which of these two would you believe to be a stronger memory.

Some people are visual learners and some are sound learners. Many are kinesthetic (let me do it and I will know how to do it), and some are word learners (readinga book) and some are a mix (like me).
A graphic designer or canvas artist will more likely remember a persons face or a beautiful sunset more than the exact conversation he had with that person, wheras a musican would more likely remember the conversation, sound of the other person's voice, and the sound of the rain during the sunset than a normal person would. It's all in how you view the world and what you have learned through many years of living on this planet to pay attention to more readily than other things. Some of it is genetic and much of it is also what you have learned over your life to pay attention to more than other things.
For example, when I learn, if someone tells me something about it and I know very little about what they are talking about, I will remember it, but not understand it very well. Once I get a book and see what they guys said in CONTEXT next to everything else I need to learn (even if I don't read it all, just skim the table of contents) , I can see the part that guy said in realation to everything else on that topic and understand it better. If someone told me an additional fact on a subject I already know very well, I will remember what he said very well, but mostly because I already have SEEN the other things I need to know about that subject on paper.
But, as others have said- smell is the most distinguishable of the sences. If you open a bottle of purfume when you are 60 from when you were with your fist boyfriend at 16 , you will remember many, many details you have long since forgoten- even after reading old love poems or seeing old photos.

I think it depends on the person. I learn by repeating things out aloud, but I have a friend who can't learn anything unless she reads it (which made lectures at university hard on her), and another friend who learned by writting things down.
I guess you should find something that works for you and stick with it.

i dont think thats true, i tend to remember things by images, i never remmeber things by noise. i mean so many other people can be opposite to me, but in general, i think it varies per person.

Well, let's see... I think I'd remember your sweaty, naked body longer if I saw it rather than heard it.

it all depends on ones dominant lobe, every one of us reacts differently to different senses. this is predetermined by our dna.
If you are a right lobe dominant person, things trigger differently than if you are a left dominant lobe person.
