I didnt see any satisfying answers yet in your answer.

Sometimes this happens. The problem is that the file you download is corrupted and you cant do anything about it.

However check if it is an self extractable archive. go to www.winrar.com or something like that and download the program. Then open your exe file with that program and try to repair it.

Yet if this happens with every single exe file you try to download i would suspect somethign interfering with the P2P protocol and that would go beyond my expertice.
But as I said limewire uses a P2P protocol and these things are not free of errors several times communications over the internet break down and it is the job of the protocol to identify when break downs occur so that your computer can request additional infor from the internet to fix the corrupt file.

Thats a simplistic explanations but people who do these protocols do mistakes sometimes and this is acceptable.

Some work, some don't, it's usually a hit or a miss. Always be cautious when taking .exe files from LimeWire - make sure the size seems reasonable (i.e. don't take one that says "Grand Theft Auto San Andreas 2MB" - that is obviously fake. Avoid 197.7 KB, 81 point something KB and 0.0KB - they are known viruses.)
