Aside from taking care of the children my responsibilities include light housekeeping, cooking and personal errands for their parents. I do drive their car during work hours and they pay me when they go on vacation. (Medical is not included) I am thinking about asking for a raise, i have been working there for 1yr 7 mths. Do think it is reasonable to ask? how much?

Maybe it would be better for them to be in agreement to pay your medical expenses versus asking for a raise? I mean think about it...if something terrible happens to you what will you do? You will be in a world of shi* with doctor bills. Try drawing up a contract stating that they can either set you up professionally with health insurance or get them to sign an agreement that they would pay for all medical expenses (ex: Dr visits, prescriptions, etc.) If they care about you as their employee and want to continue having the convenience that they have with you they will be a good boss and provide you with proper health care.

I think you should be paid more, especially given the amount of hours, you work and the number of kids (twins...yikes), housekeeping chores, and lack of medical. However you left out whether you live with the family or not, that has to be taken into account.
You should ask other people in your profession, to figure out what a fair amount for your work should be, especially given how important it is.

If the case is that you are living with this family and not having to pay housing expences, then maybe it would sort of even out a bit more, but if you have expenses of your own, I would definitely talk to them about a raise, especially since you are not only taking care of their children, but doing extra errands/housework for them.

I would expect at least 10 dollars an hour, which would turn out to be 2000 a month. Thats alot of hours you put in for 3 children, and do you go to their house (gas, car expense)?

I think it is very fair. You don't have to purchase 'office attire', you drive their vehicle, you eat their food, you work in a relatively low stress environment, and you should ask for a raise after a year, it is reasonable to do so.
PS. I don't mean to say caring for children is low stress, I am saying compared to working in an office situation, with back biting, politics and jerks, working with children is great.

I think it would never hurt to ask for a raise, insurance at the least especially if you live there. You know if your worth more!

well it really depends on where you live because the cost of living is different everywhere. since you have been working there for so long i think you deserve a raise. i mean you have been loyal to them, now its their turn to return the favor.

very fair. if they paid you any more to watch the kids they might as well stay home and do it themselves because it would not be worth them working
